Graduation Party

PARKER

It’s been three days since graduation and I’m at my parents’ house where they’re holding a small graduation party for me.

I was told it was going to be small, but the doorbell just keeps on ringing and suddenly more guests show up. But I’m not even annoyed that my parents splashed a few thousand dollars on me tonight for an ideal grad party.

I’m glad that they’re being themselves, spoiling guests with exquisite canapes and pretty drinks as they show off their well-deserved lifestyle.

My mother insisted on me wearing an Atelier Versace Spring Collection 2021 dress and honestly, I can’t feel any more beautiful and delicate than I do in this pale blue dress with a high slit and jewel-encrusted corset. Beautiful on the outside and empty on the inside.

“Can you believe college is over?” Lex asks me and I barely get time to reply before she’s off in the direction of a waiter holding a tray of boozy drinks.

The doorbell rings and I can see my parents are too engaged in their conversation, so I paste on my best smile across my face and go to open the door.

I almost drop my glass of wine when I see Hudson, his mother, Victoria, and his father standing there. I feel my smile disappear immediately.

What the fuck?

After a week of mental anguish, crying, and relieving the pain, this bastard dares to stand in my doorway in a fucking black suit, holding a bouquet of dark red roses as if nothing happened between us.

Like he didn’t just leave me in the middle of the road.

“Hi.” The words sound icy leaving my mouth.

“Congratulations, Parker.” Victoria steps forward and kisses my cheek. “Your mother called and insisted that we come for your party. We’re so proud of you.”

Hudson’s father steps forward and kisses my cheek too. “Congratulations. It’s good to see you again, Parker.”

His dark, unsettling green eyes are fixed on mine as he smiles. A shiver runs down my spine as he grazes his palm against my shoulder before he leaves and follows his wife inside.

I just don’t like that man. There’s something weird about him and it unnerves me.

“Hey,” Hudson says, holding the flowers out to me.

I don’t take them. Instead, I fold my arms across my chest. “I appreciate your parents coming here, but you shouldn’t have come.”

And then I leave him standing in the doorway as I head back into the party. My glass of wine is finished, so I go in search of another in the kitchen where there are various wine bottles open.

I grab a bottle of red wine and pour some into a clean wine glass before taking a sip of the slightly sweet, tart liquid.

“Parker.”

I almost choke as I hear his voice. Hudson walks into the kitchen, leaving the red roses down on the granite countertop.

“Please just listen to me.”

“If you don’t get away from me, I’ll scream.” The threat in my voice is real.

He’s driven me to the point where I just don’t want to listen to him anymore. Because I’m afraid that I’ll just fall back into his world and I’ll never end this stupid cycle of going back and forth.

“Are you crazy? Can you please stop acting like this?” He takes a step forward and I slam my glass down on the countertop.

“Am I crazy? Hmm, I don’t know. But I’ll do anything for you to get away from me. Do you want to take that chance?”

He nods, his green eyes piercing right through me. “If that’s what you want.”
