He was right. I’d lied to him over and over. And because of that, I would pay the price.

What hurt more was how easily Sebastian had discarded me. As if those moments we’d shared meant nothing. Perhaps to him, they had meant nothing. After all, he had always been able to feel. But he was the first I’d ever cared for. The one who’d taught me pleasure. His abandonment hit me hard.

It didn’t help that my disappointment grew each time I heard a noise outside my cell and hoped it was him, here to rescue me from this place to give me another chance.

He didn’t come.

When the door did finally open, I woke, startled and disoriented. Especially since the voice whispering, “Hurry up if you want out of here,” didn’t belong to Sebastian.

To my surprise, my rescuer was none other than Silas.
