They look at each other again. It takes Rei a few seconds to say anything, and when he does, he speaks softly. He speaks so quietly I can hardly hear him. “No,” he says. “You shouldn’t be there. This…it might hurt you. He could hurt you.”

“But you said seeing me might help him. And without going there today, I would’ve never gotten the answers I needed. So this was good for me.”

“Except for the part where you almost got murdered,” Misha says as he gets to his feet. “I don’t like you being in the same room as him.”

“So I can be in the same house,” I say. “I need to help somehow. I can’t just stand around twiddling my fingers, waiting for you to call me when you remember and tell me if you managed to exorcise him.”

“You’re too important. I don’t want you to get hurt,” Misha says, his hand cupping my cheek.

“I have to help,” I say. “I have to do something.”

Rei sighs. “We should let her,” he says.

Misha snaps his head up to look at him. “What?”

“She feels powerless enough,” he says. “She’s right. She’s part of this now, and we have to let her help.”
