Trine

Iwalk into my apartment, trying to be as quiet as possible.

It’s pointless. I can hear voices coming from Bryony’s room, and even though I’m trying to sneak past her door, there’s no way. Despite them being loud, they always have an ear for me. I don’t understand it, but I suppose it’s not really that important because the entire band is here and they’re all talking over each other, asking me where I have been, blocking my way to my room.

Bryony holds her hand up when she meets my gaze.

“Ladies, ladies, let’s give her some space,” she says. The girls stop talking at once, but they’re all giggling under their breath. “We need to be quiet for Trine to tell us all the details.”

I shake my head, but I can’t help but crack a smile. “It’s been such a long day,” I say. “I don’t know if I have it in…”

“We brought wine,” Kelly says.

“And weed!” Alana adds from behind her. “And we can put on a dumb movie in the background while you tell us everything.”

“Guys, I don’t know if I can…”

Bryony grabs my hand and pulls me away from them, guiding me toward the living room. “You guys should order food,” she says. “Trine and I need to talk.”

They protest, but once Alana starts herding the rest of the girls away toward the kitchen, they don’t say anything. Bryony pushes me down on the sofa, and I notice that there’s already an unopened bottle of Mexican coke on the coffee table. “Drink,” she says, gesturing toward the can opener next to the glass bottle. “After your day, you’re probably dehydrated.”

I roll my eyes. “You’re so bossy,” I say.

She smirks at me. “I know,” she says. “If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t have been able to get them off your back.”

I smile at her. “Thank you.”

She nods, waving me off. She’s drinking from that giant water bottle she always carries around with her. “I assumed something went down. You forgot we had this planned for tonight.”

I groan. She’s right. I’ve forgotten all about my plans for the week. I’ve forgotten all about everything except the exorcists and everything surrounding them. “I’ve been busy,” I say.

“I know,” she says, her smile turning into a grin. “You’ve been getting busy.”

I bite down on my lower lip, shaking my head. “Stop. It’s not funny.”

“It’s a little funny,” she says. “You know we’re rehearsing tomorrow, right? You haven’t forgotten about that, have you?”

“Ha-ha,” I reply. “No, I haven’t forgotten. I haven’t forgotten about all the shows we have coming up either. I’m just…distracted.”

She laughs, then drops her voice to a whisper. From the kitchen, we can hear our bandmates arguing about how many pizzas to order. I don’t really care about contributing, since I’ve already eaten.

“I know,” Bryony says. “So let’s talk about that. You saw the hot guy from the show again?”

I nod. “Yeah. And the people he was with.”

“What?”

She looks so scandalized. It’s fucking hilarious. “Oh, yeah,” I say, smiling back at her. “At the same time.”

“All three of them?” Alana screams from the kitchen.

Damn her and her supersonic hearing.

“How?” Sierra says. “Can you draw us a diagram?”

“No, no,” Kelly replies. “Let her tell us. It’ll be funnier that way.”

I try to waive them off. “No, guys, not all three of them. One of them is a priest, remember?”
