I stretched up onto my toes, touching my lips to his gently. There was a moment where he froze in place, a moment where there was nothing but complete and utter silence.

His hand slid beneath the curtain of my hair in the next, cupping the back of my head and pulling me tighter into him as his lips parted. He slid his tongue inside my mouth, tangling it with mine in a ruthless possession that both shocked me and threatened to consume me.

He drank from me like a man who’d been dying of thirst, his body pressing into the front of mine so harshly it felt like we might melt into one being.

He pulled back as quickly as he’d deepened the kiss, his lips swollen as he reached up a finger to touch them. His face was twisted in surprise, but he hung his head forward and sighed. I gave him a moment, waiting to see if he would honor his words about not taking advantage of me.

Even if in that moment, I felt so certain I wanted him to take advantage of me.

When he opened his eyes, they had shifted back to their normal gray. “Tomorrow, Iri. If you still want this tomorrow….” He trailed off, letting the words and the admission hang between us.

Tomorrow he’d give me what I wanted, but for tonight we would pretend we were just friends and he’d hold me through my grief.

Tomorrow, my life would change. If I could go through with it.
