“He was murdered.”

Her gasp of shock cuts through the silence.

“But that’s not all.”

Hauling her backward, I twist her toward the headstone I was leaning against both tonight and the night she first found me here.

Her gasp of shock combined with her hand lifting to cover her mouth clues me into the fact that she immediately understands.

“Seb,” she almost sobs.

The sound of her empathy threatens to make a lump of emotion crawl up my throat, but I swallow it down. Like fuck am I going to allow her to see how much all of this affects me.

Dropping to my knees behind her, I ignore the wetness that instantly soaks into my jeans as I pull her head back, putting my lips to her ear.

“Is this answering some of your questions?” I growl, making her shudder in my hold.

“Yes and no,” she confesses.

“So what else did you want to know?” I ask, knowing exactly what’s going to fall from her lips.

“What this all has to do with me?”

A dark, wicked chuckle falls from my lips.

I have her on her back in a heartbeat. Her chest heaves as I pin both of her wrists in the mud above her head and trap her thighs with my legs.

She squirms, but we both know she’s going nowhere.

“It’s cold. Is this really necessary?” she asks, her voice sounding almost bored while her body tells a whole other story.

“Do you still have my knife, Hellion?” I ask, my eyes darting over her features. Even in the dark night I can tell her pupils are blown, but I know it’s not with fear. No matter how badly I might want her to be scared of me, I know she’s not. Her lips are parted with her increased breaths and her chest is heaving.

She shakes her head, causing anger to surge through my veins.

If she’s fucking lost that knife…

“No great loss,” I lie. “I’ve got a backup.”

Taking both of her wrists in one of my hands, I reach behind me and pull my spare knife from my pocket.

“Oh God,” she whimpers as she watches the raindrops fall onto the cool metal in my hand.

“You made a mistake coming here tonight, Hellion. Hell, you made a mistake coming here at all.”

“Why?” she cries. “Tell me why.”

She thrashes beneath me, proving that if she wanted to get away she probably could. But I have a suspicion that escaping right now is the last thing on her mind.

Leaning over her, I rest the flat of my knife against her cheek.

“There’s so much you don’t know, Hellion,” I murmur, dragging the tip of my nose down her cheek as I mimic the movement on the other side with my knife.
