“Motherfucker,” I boom, flying at Toby and taking him with me until his back hits the wall.
Pressing my forearm against his throat, I glare right into his blue eyes.
“Where is she?”
“Fuck you, Seb. I’m not telling you anything,” he snarls.
“I need to know where she is. I need to—”
“To what? Hurt her some more? All of this is your fucking fault.”
My fist collides with his cheekbone, forcing his head to the side as I battle with the monster inside me who wants more than anything to continue until he’s physically incapable of answering me.
“And you wonder why he doesn’t want to tell you,” a deep voice rumbles from behind him. “We’re trying to protect her.”
“No,” I shout. “You’re letting her run. I was protecting her.”
“Who are you kidding, Sebastian? You’ve lied to her just as much as the rest of us.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?” I release Toby in favour of turning toward Galen. “You’ve been lying to her since the day she was born.”
“She’s not the only one,” Toby scoffs from my side.
“So what, I didn’t tell her what her name really meant. So what, I didn’t tell her what you did? Those are your secrets. Not mine. You have no right to have a say in how we protect our own. How I protect what’s mine.”
“She’s not yours,” Toby states.
A humourless laugh falls from my lips.
“Oh, so that makes her yours, does it?”
“No. She’s never going to be mine.”
“Finally,” I announce to the room, throwing my arms out to my sides. “He finally gets it.”
“No, you’re the one who doesn’t fucking get it. She’s never going to be mine in the way you want her.”
“Why? It’s what you want,” I spit.
“Because she’s my sister.”
Silence ripples through the room at his words. I swear all three of us actually stop breathing.
Sister?
His sister?
“No. No you’re not. You’re an only child.”
“Yeah,” he scoffs. “I fucking thought so, too.”
I stare at Toby, my eyes narrowing in confusion before I twist back to Galen once more.
“You’re a lying fucking cunt. You know that? You don’t deserve a daughter like her. She’s too fucking good for a scumbag like you.”
