“Let’s go then.”

He rips the door open and damn near throws me inside in his haste.

In only seconds, he drops the container with his beloved dessert into my lap and brings his beast of a car to life.

“You know, this utterly ridiculous car makes a lot of sense now.”

He laughs at me as he floors the accelerator and wheelspins out of the space.

“So where do you live?”

“It’s not far.”

“It’s some insane penthouse or something, isn’t it?”

“No, actually. I don’t live in the penthouse. Nico does.”

A laugh rumbles up my throat. “Can’t say I’m surprised. So he’s like third in line to be in charge or something?”

Toby looks over at me with amusement playing in his eyes.

“Just how much research have you done, Demon?”

“It was Bri, mostly. She was the one who dropped the bomb on me.”

He nods, clearly happy about something. “What?”

He reaches over and twists his fingers with mine. “I love that you trusted me enough not to look me up.”

“Seriously? There’s like, nothing about you online. If I didn’t know you actually existed I’d think you were recently reincarnated.”

“You’re not entirely wrong there,” he mutters.

“What’s that meant to mean?” I ask, narrowing my gaze at him.

“Don’t worry, Demon. All will be revealed.”

“I’m not sure I like the sound of that.”

He glances over at me and winks.

“Too late. Welcome to the dark side, baby. Trust me, life is never boring.”
