While it all might have been a shock, I can’t deny that he’s the best thing that ever happened to her. I’ve never seen her smile like she does since she’s been with him, and her confidence is through the roof. And although he might be a bad boy from the estate, he’s also a total sweetheart with her. I can understand how she fell so hard and fast.

“Come out for dinner with us tonight?” she asks with hope in her eyes.

“I’d love to. I don’t finish here until seven, though.”

“We can pick you up at your place at eight?”

“Sounds good. Give Jesse a hug for me,” I say when I notice the big guy loitering outside the front doors waiting for her. “He could have come in, you know.”

“He went to run a few errands, wanted us to have some girl time.”

“Fair enough. I’ll see you later, yeah?”

“Can’t wait,” she says excitedly. “I’m so glad to be back. See you later.”

She damn near bounces out of the coffee shop and jumps into his arms.

Jealousy threatens to take hold as I witness the incredible connection the two of them share. They’ve got the kind of relationship that everyone craves, but most never find. I truly believe they’ve both found their soulmates in each other. I really hope that life never comes between them, because I’m not sure either would survive it.

My eyes don’t leave them until they disappear around the corner, and then I drag myself out of my own head and get back to work, really not wanting to risk pissing Matt off any more today.

The thought of him sitting in his office right now, watching our little sex tape on the security feed slams into me and I shudder.

He wouldn’t. He’s a decent guy.

He wouldn’t do that.

Would he?

Iflip the sign to closed the second the last customer leaves and twist the lock on the front door after promising Matt that I’ll behave, something I do with my cheeks glowing again.

I watch as he drops into a black car that’s been out the front for a while waiting for him, although I couldn’t see who was driving.

Despite working here for almost two years now, I still know very little about my boss. He’s a total enigma, one I know that I don’t want to piss off for real. There’s certainly something about him that is a little terrifying, and I’d rather not have to witness any more of it than I have.

Turning the background music off, I work in silence, just listening to the torrential rain pounding down on the windows as I restock everything beneath the counter ready for the morning shift.

I’m almost done when there’s a knock at the door.

My heart jumps into my throat and hope floods me that it might be Toby.

I hop up, my eyes glued on the doors, and a little squeal of excitement passes my lips when I see him sheltering from the rain in the doorway.

My hand trembles with adrenaline as I lift it to open the door once more.

“Hey, this is a nice sur—” He forces his way inside and wraps me up in his arms, his lips finding mine. My word turns into a groan as he kisses me as if he hasn’t seen me in years, not just a few days.

The door slams shut behind us as he backs me into the counter, hiking me up onto it so he can stand between my thighs.

My heart pounds and my skin burns with need for him, but I know I can’t.

Fighting to keep my head, I press my palms against his chest and push him back a little, reluctantly ripping our lips apart.

His chest heaves as his erratic breaths rush past his full, parted lips, and his eyes darken with hunger as he takes in my reaction to his surprise arrival.

“Fuck, I’ve missed you.”
