She’s not wrong. We spent all night talking about everything and nothing, finally getting the chance to really get to know each other. Although, I can’t deny that I was cautious about how much information I gave her about me and my life, focusing on asking her questions and avoiding the topic of family at every opportunity. The question that I knew was coming—that really hit me—was the one about my scar on my chest. I’ve seen her eyes drop to it a time or two when we’ve been together, and I knew I was on borrowed time. You’d have thought that would have allowed me to come up with a better lie. It didn’t, and I fumbled around, answering like an idiot. She blatantly didn’t believe me, but thankfully, she let it go. It’s not like I could tell her that I took a bullet protecting my sister from her deranged and psychotic stepbrother.

Her lips brush mine in the softest kiss that I feel all the way down to my toes.

I’ve never met anyone like her before. Stella came close with how she immediately made me feel comfortable in her company, as I guess she should, seeing as it turns out we share a set of parents. But being with Jodie, everything feels right. Pieces of me that I never even realised were out of place suddenly seem to fit.

“Thank you for tonight,” she says against my lips. “For this. It’s… everything.”

“I didn’t think we were talking,” I remind her.

“We’re not. I just needed you to know that.”

I don’t get a chance to respond because her lips finally capture mine and I happily hand myself over to her, my body more than ready to rediscover the electric connection between us when we collide.
