“He messaged to say that she was okay, but I don’t have any more details than that.”

“Well, that’s something, I guess.”

“Something good has to come out of all this, right?” I ask, desperate for her to find something.

She holds my eyes, a soft smile playing on her lips. “It already has. Tell me about your weekend. The bits I didn’t get to listen to,” she says, wiggling her brows.

“You are so bad,” I laugh, hitting her with a cushion.

“Me?” She points at herself. “I’m bad? I wasn’t the one fucking that boy’s brains out all weekend.”

I sigh, falling back on the sofa dramatically. “And it was so damn good.”

“See. My point exactly. There is your good right there.”

“Good, or downright dirty?” I ask with a laugh.

I tell her all about our time away, trying to describe to her the grandeur of the cabin, which I think is completely impossible, even with a few photos because it’s just that impressive.

“It sounds like the weekend dreams are made of.”

“It was pretty epic, all the drama surrounding it aside. I wish I knew where all their money came from.”

Bri stares at me, something akin to amusement flickering through her eyes.

“What?” I ask, feeling like I’m missing something massive. “What?” I ask again, irritation flooding me when all she does is smile back.

“You’re kidding me, right?”

“Uh… no?” I say, not meaning it to come out like a question.

“Fucking hell, Jojo. If I knew you were this oblivious then I’d have told you already.”

“Okay, I have no fucking clue what you’re talking about right now.”

“Jesus, I underestimated you.” I quirk a brow, quickly moving from irritated to just pure fucking angry.

“They’re mafia,” she deadpans.

I can’t help but burst out laughing. “What the actual fuck, Bri? You really had me going there for a minute.”

I continue laughing for a few seconds, but it quickly falls away when I notice she’s not joining in.

“Bri?”

“I’m deadly serious, Jodie. Nico is the son of one of the most powerful men in the Cirillo Crime Family.”

My chin drops and stays that way for a good few seconds.

“How did you not know this?”

"Funnily enough, I didn’t actually ask if they were part of the fucking mafia on our first date.”

“Of course not. You were too busy sucking on Toby’s cock.”

I launch the cushion at her once more, successfully knocking her entire glass of prosecco clean from her hand.

“Jojo,” she whines. “That’s my favourite.”
