“I knew it,” Isabella says again, smiling to herself.

Thankfully, she doesn’t have any more questions. And also thankfully, this restaurant has an expansive dessert menu. She’s so focused on picking which flavor of cheesecake she wants that she doesn’t notice Adrik go eerily still next to me.

When I look up, his face is almost unrecognizable. Gone is the thoughtful guardian angel from a few minutes earlier.

Now, Adrik’s expression is deadly. He looks stone-cold and dangerous.

“What is it?” I whisper.

“Waters,” he grits out between clenched teeth.

“Yeah, I know. There’s a fountain. Isabella already saw—”

“Not water,” he corrects. “Waters.”

I don’t understand what he means until I follow his gaze. Sitting at a table just beyond the fountain is Malcolm Waters.

And he’s looking our way.
