I shake my head. “I would never risk that. They have eyes on the penthouse. If you leave, they’ll follow. Don’t go anywhere unless you see the black car tailing you.”
For a moment, I expect an argument. After all, at the very beginning of this, Emery’s only request had been that she not be surveilled.
But instead, she nods. “Okay.”
I bend down and kiss her. Isabella, not picking up on the tension in the room, wrinkles her nose. “Ew. You guys are gross.”
I reach out and cup her chubby cheek quickly. “Be good for your mama.”
As I’m walking out the door, I turn back and look at them once more.
I never thought this kind of life could be for me. But as I look at the family scene in front of me—my own little slice of domestic bliss—I realize there is nowhere else in the world I’d rather be than right here with them. They’re my fucking everything.
But duty calls. I have to answer.
