CHAPTER SIX

Brigham

As six started to roll around, I sat in my car outside Ava’s apartment complex, wondering why she has yet to message me. Because I had been so eager, I decided to come here thinking that she would be messaging me soon to come to get her. But after sitting here for twenty minutes, I was starting to rethink that decision.

“What’s going on?” I muttered, wishing I knew which apartment she lived in so I could go get her.

I pulled out my phone and finally decided to text her first.

To Ava 6:03 PM

Hey, it’s Brigham. I’ve been waiting for your message. Are you almost ready to go?

I was thinking it would take a while for her to message me back, so imagine my surprise when my phone almost instantly went off.

But my blood boiled at what I read.

From Ava 6:04 PM

I’m sorry, Brigham, but I think you made a mistake by choosing me last night. I’ll make it easy on you and you don’t have to worry about taking me out on a date. I understand.

I was beyond confused because I was sure I had made it clear to her last night how much I wanted her. I knew then that someone must’ve deterred her from going out with me tonight. More than likely those fake ass friends, I bitterly thought to myself, wishing I could just go kill then but I didn’t think that Ava would like that.

Knowing I wasn’t just going to let this slide, I pressed the call button, waiting for her to answer. For a minute, I thought she would just ignore me, but after the first few rings, the line clicked, indicating that it had gone through.

“Ava.” I murmured, trying to remain calm, “what’s with this sudden change of mind? Did someone say something to you?”

The sniffling sound on the other side of the line indicated to me that she was crying. My rage was about to topple over, feeling this desperation course over me.

“What’s your apartment number?” I asked her, really needing to know, “I want to come up.”

“I don’t want you to see me like this.” She cried, sounding like she was miserable, “please go away, Brigham, maybe we can try to do this at a later time.”

“Wait-” I started to speak, but it was too late.

She hung up the phone, leaving me shocked.

I tried to call her back, but it seems like she had turned off her phone, no longer accepting any calls or messages. I cursed under my breath, tossing my phone aside as I debated on what I was going to do now. I debated on just giving her the space she might need, but as I saw a man approaching the door, pulling out his keys, I almost instantly had an idea. I quickly got out of the car, rushing over before the door could shut behind him.

“Dude, if you don’t have keys, you can’t just barge in here.” He told me, trying to block my way.

I made up a lie, giving him my biggest smile, “I apologize, man, I left my keys in the apartment with my girlfriend, Ava. She must’ve fallen asleep so I can’t get a hold of her.”

The man looked quite skeptical, but nodded his head, “wow, I didn’t realize my next-door neighbor had a boyfriend. I normally only ever see her with girls, so I assumed she would be a lesbian.”

As we started up the stairs, I figured that if I followed him, I would quickly be able to learn which apartment is hers. We went up about two flights of steps before he moved into the hallway, looking over at a different door as he approached what I assumed to be his. That must be hers…

“Thank you very much.” I told him, hoping he wouldn’t just wait outside to see where I would go, “have a good night.”

His eyes narrowed slightly, but he shrugged his shoulders, heading into his apartment, “yeah, you, too.”

The door shut a little quickly behind him, and the deadbolt could be heard sliding into place. I sighed, shaking my head as I realized he must’ve figured out what I was dangerous and to not be taken lightly. Turning on my heel, I walked over to the door that he had been looking at.

I hesitated as I stood in front of her door, wondering if I was doing the right thing. I should be giving her the space that she had asked for, but I was just being compelled to not do it. I just knew she needed me, and the daddy dom inside of me wasn’t allowing me to walk away from her.

I knocked on her front door, speaking to her in the softest, most welcoming voice that I could, “Ava, it’s me, Brigham. Can you please open the door?”

I wondered if I was going to have to knock on the door once more, but I could hear the shuffling coming from inside. Hearing the door being unlocked, I patiently waited as she opened the door a smidge, peering at me from the crack in the door.
