“Stop!” I demanded again, then palmed my face. “Please, pleasedon’t say another word about last night. If I think about it anymore, I’m going to puke.”

“Well, we don’t want that.” He crossed his arms over his broad chest.

“Thank you,” I breathed out with a sigh. “I’m really sorry about my behavior last night, Evan ... I mean,Ethan, and I just want this all to be a memory. So, if you’ll just do me a favor and pretend I don’t exist, that would be great.”

He tipped his head slightly, then shrugged. “Okay. If that’s what you want.”

“That’s what I want,” I quickly answered. “I’m really, really sorry for everything I did last night. Now, if you could just go to the gate for your plane and get on with your life pretending you never met me, I’d appreciate it.”

Ethan softly shook his head. “Okay, Ivy. I will. It was nice meeting you. Safe travels.”

Instead of heading out into the airport and going far away like I imagined he’d do, he walked over to the nearby bank of chairs in the same lobby I waited in.

“What are you doing?” I called over when he sat down.

“Waiting for my plane,” he answered back.

My eyes bulged. “This is your flight? You’re onthisflight?”

He grinned. “Yep.”

Shit.

I slunk lower in my chair. It seemed my one terrible night of bad decisions insisted on haunting me like a ruthless stalker.

I pulled out my phone and texted Iris.

Me: I hate you. You told me to have a one-night stand, and I’d never see the guy again. He’s here. At the airport. ON MY FLIGHT!!!!!

Iris: Whattttttt??? STFU! Hottie McHotterpants is there right now!?

Me: Yes. I’m dying. I’m so ready to cancel my flight. I’m already petrified of flying, and it’s taking everything I have to get on that plane alone, and now this. How is this happening?!

Iris: This is too crazy! Send me a pic.

I tried to casually point my phone at him to take a pic, but my stealth photo skills weren’t up to par because he smiled and waved. “Taking a pic for Iris? Tell her hello!”

My cheeks turned to scalding as I spun around in my seat.

Me: He busted me taking his picture! Gah! I’m not getting on this flight. I’m just gonna run home. There are bridges connecting the Paradise Isles to the mainland. I can make it. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING!?!?!

Iris: ROFLMAO! You are not gonna Forrest Gump your way home! You’re getting on the plane. But seriously. This would only happen to you. I’ve had plenty of one-night stands I’ve never seen again. Sorry :(

Me: It’s my own damn fault. I should have just gone to that bartender’s place and gone to bed. Ugh. I’m such an idiot.

Iris: And you can’t even remember it? That sucks! He’s hot. I wouldn’t want to forget banging him! And now you don’t even know if you’re good in the sack! Oh! Go over there and ask him!

Me: NO! Omg NO!!!! I’m pretending this never happened. I’m going home, Ethan doesn’t exist, and I have to figure out now my whole job situation since I slept with a married manager at my company, and I don’t know how in the hell I’m going to work with him every day. How is this my life?

The gate speakers crackled, and they announced boarding would begin.

Me: OMG They are boarding. I cannot get on a plane with him.

Iris: It will be fine. I’m sure you’ll be seated far away. Just get on the plane and get home. I’m making plans to come see you next week. We’ll figure it all out.

Me: Thank you. OK. I’m getting on the plane. I’ll text you when I land

Iris: Love you!
