“You got any hot friends you can call to come hang out with Ivy?” Iris asked. “Preferably single ones that are good in bed?”

“Would you shut it, Iris?” I argued.

“Or what about that guy?” Iris jutted her chin toward the hot new guy now sipping a bottle of beer. “You know him?”

Alec looked over his shoulder. “Who? Ethan? Oh yeah. He’s been living down here for at least a few years during the season. Good guy.”

“Not a serial killer?” Iris asked.

Alec chuckled. “Ethan? Oh, hell no. Wouldn’t hurt a fly.”

“Well, if Leslie doesn’t want Ivy there, maybe she could stay at Ethan’s place.” Iris’s eyebrows wiggled up and down.

Alec laughed, and I knew I turned another shade of some color I could only imagine.

“Iris! Stop!” I laughed, then apologized to Alec.

“It’s fine. Your sister is a real kick.” He walked off with a chuckle toward another new guest.

“I need to pee. When I get out of the bathroom, I’ll call you back. I need more of your happy energy to keep me from walking into the ocean.”

Iris smiled. “I got you, Sis. No need to hang up. Just prop me up against your margarita and point me to the beach. I’ll watch the stars until you get back. Kinda like I’m really there with you.”

“Okay. Deal.” I moved my phone and leaned it up against my glass. “Hey, Alec. Don’t let anyone steal Iris while I’m gone.”

“I’ll watch her!” he called back.

“Thanks, Iris. You’re the best sister ever. I’m gonna need you to get through this nightmare.”

“Always, Ivy. I’ve got your back. Now hurry up so you can come back, and we can do more shots.”

I laughed and stood up. When I did, I passed a glance at the gorgeous guy sitting solo at the bar. His gaze lifted and met mine, and when our eyes connected, I nearly tripped over my own feet.

Damn. Maybe I should follow Iris’s advice and go get some heartbreak healing on with that juicy piece of man meat.

But as soon as I let the thought run wild again, I quickly reined it back in.

No. Tonight was just about figuring out how the hell to get my stuff and get home tomorrow so I could figure out what the hell I was going to do with this next part of my life. There would be no riding off into the sunset naked on top of that gorgeous creature.

I dragged my gaze away from the man it could have soaked in all night and headed for the restrooms.

“Love ya, sis! Don’t fall in!” Iris called.

I turned around and blew her a kiss, then gave one last glance to the man watching my departure.

No, Ivy. No hot, dirty one-night stand breakup sex. No, no, no!

My mind may have been pumping the brakes, but damned if my body wasn’t begging me to say yes.
