“I could say that I waited my whole life for you, but that would be a lie,” he started as I stood stunned and staring. “The truth was, I didn’t think you existed. I didn’t think there was a woman in this world who could make my life better. Fuller. I truly thought I’d be a carefree bachelor for all of my days, and never once did I think this day would come. But then ... then I met you.”

Tears slipped down my cheek.

“You opened me up to a world of new possibilities and showed me that the perfect woman for me truly existed, and life is so much more fun when you’re sharing it with the woman you love. And I want to share all my days with you, all my nights, all my forevers. I don’t want to spend another moment of my life where you’re not in it. So, Ivy, will you please do me the honor of saying yes and becoming my wife?”

Despite my nodding head, no words came out. Only soft cries as I fought to get my answer out over the lump in my throat.

“Is that a yes?” He arched an eyebrow and flashed me that bright, white smile.

“Yes!” I finally managed, dropping my little armful of snacks and falling forward into his arms.

Ethan caught my face in his hands and pulled my lips to his. I cried as I kissed him, the happiness I felt so powerful I didn’t think my heart and soul could sustain that amount of joy any longer. As he kissed me deeper, I was sure I would burst.

“I love you, Ethan. I love you so much,” I said between kisses. “I cannot wait to marry you.”

“I love you more than anything, Ivy, and we are going to have such an amazing life together. I know we are.”

And I knew it too. Together, we could accomplish anything, and together, we would continue pushing ourselves to live a life far beyond our wildest dreams. It was beyond my wildest dreams I’d have met someone like Ethan in the first place, much less gone on this journey with him that had changed my life—changed me. But as I kissed him deeper, I knew that everything in my life had just been bringing me to this moment. To this man. To this life. I’d had to break all my rules to get here, but now only one rule was left that mattered.

Rule number one.

And this time, I knew we wouldn’t have any trouble not breaking rule number one again. I knew with certainty that we would love each other until the end of time.
