Six

Eoghan

I didn’t believein fate, because to me, a man made his own destiny.

That being said, everything about this situation was starting to feel off to me.

Everything about her felt like it fit with me. She gelled. And while some of it could be contrived, I didn’t think she could maintain a twenty-four seven façade to make me think she was perfect for me.

She was smart enough, granted, but I’d seen too many sides to her in the past six days. Moments of vulnerability, joy, surprise, and need.

I also got a read on her that she wanted this to work. I had a feeling, sex wise, she’d do whatever I wanted to tie me to her, and because her pussy was like crack, I’d let her carry on believing that.

And yeah, I considered myself a fortunate man because Inessa showed all the signs of having an incredible sex drive, so letting her burn off her hormones on me was no punishment.

She’d woken me up yesterday with her fingers around my dick, and the second I’d become aware, she’d moved on top of me.

She was the aggressor, but I knew I should have left her alone. I wasn’t lying about her cunt being like crack.

One taste would never be enough.

I tugged at my bottom lip as I thought about her as she’d been earlier this morning. She’d been naked, her body splayed on the sheets, exhaustion riding her after another round of sex as I left the bedroom and made my way into the gym.

She didn’t wake up like she’d taken to doing, and when I’d showered in the guest room after quietly grabbing some things from my closet, she still had shown no signs of life.

I’d admit to feeling smug as I left her a note on the hall console. One that detailed the code to the elevator—a code I warned her against sharing with anyone—a number she had to call when she wanted to go out, her guard’s name, a guy called Limerick, and listed the pin code to her new card as well as the furniture I wanted her to change while I was gone.

My trip should only take five days, and there was a lot of shopping to be done in that time—but I made it clear I wanted it done before my return.

I hoped to fuck that I wasn’t about to come home to an apartment that was styled for a teenager with bean bags or some shit, but it was an extension of trust.

One I hoped she passed.

Conor broke into my thoughts by slipping a file across the table.

I jerked to life at the sight of it, frowned, and said, “Already read it.”

“I know.”

I blinked at him. “Why are you here anyway?”

Usually, Aidan came with me on these things if I needed help.

Conor shrugged. “Da’s orders.”

I rolled my eyes. “Because you’ll be a lot of use when it comes down to it.”

He flipped me the bird as he sank back into the comfortable bucket seat.

The private jet was a luxury, one that made it very easy to fulfill my missions.

You’d be surprised how many opportunities there were for a sniper, and the jet enabled me to fly across the world, earning a mint, even as we infiltrated organizations around the globe.

Sure, my identity was a secret, but that I worked for the Five Points wasn’t.

Everyone knew about the Whistler.

I hated the fucking moniker, but it had stuck when some kid had told the police the only thing he’d heard before one of my victims fell was the whistle of my bullet.
