I got shivers from the coldness of his words. He spoke like a businessman, like we’d just finished a pre-planned transaction. The gratification from our time together disappeared like fog on a sunny day.

“Hunter, you don’t have to treat me like this.”

“I’m treating you with the respect you demanded.” He was punishing me by taking away the faint trace of emotion that could be found in our conversation. “I would pretty much like if you could get on the pill soon because I seem to lose my mind around you, but I understand if you refuse because it’s your choice how you manage your wellness…because I amnotsexist. Your employee insurance covers that. I would also like to see a bill of health from you.”

I couldn’t even bring myself to answer. I bit my lip and nodded because the way he was talking to me couldn’t be dignified with a response. I let him inside me seconds ago and he was treating me like I was his secretary. No, scratch that, Emily wouldn’t let anyone speak to her so condescendingly.

“I will make an appointment with my doctor and you’ll have the papers shortly.”

Deciding that this conversation was over, I walked past him, aiming for the bathroom so I could hide myself behind a closed door, but right before I reached my hiding spot, Hunter grabbed my arm and pulled me to his chest.

“I have a few more things to discuss, Miss Hart.”

“Like what?” I snapped.

“Don’t raise your voice, kitten. You know better than that.”

“What did you want to talk about?”

“My housekeepers will be here later this afternoon. They come twice a week and clean the entire house, your suite and the nursery included.”

“I, umm, I thought I was supposed to do that?” Weren’t live-in nannies the ones who had to cook and clean too?

“No, you are here just for Sofi. I just wanted to let you know, so the other personnel wouldn’t scare you.” That was oddly thoughtful, but he was still an asshole.

“Thank you, but I think I will be at the doctor checking myself for STDs. Speaking of, I would like to see your bill of health too.”

“Sarcasm, Amelia? That’s strike two. One more and I’m going to use the whip on you tonight.” All I could do was gawk at him. “Get a sitter for Saturday night.”

“What for?”

“I’m taking you somewhere.”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t think I want to go after you spoke to me like I was a stranger in the street.”

“You called me a sexist.” Right, I did that. “Saturday night I will take you to a party in one of my clubs.”

Oh. Poppy told me about those closed doors parties her club hosted. They were supposed to be legendary.

“Is this the club where my friend works?”

That made Hunter laugh—a low, dark chuckle that made every single hair on my body stand up.

“No, Amelia. A different club. I doubt you or your friends ever set foot inKinbaku.”

“Ok. Anything else?”

“Yes.” He tilted my face up and pulled me into a devouring, domineering kiss. He tasted me and marked my mouth, declaring it as his. “Don’t change. I like how you look in my shirt.”

Before I could answer, Hunter walked out the way he came in and disappeared, leaving me a mess. His mood swings were exhausting. He was going from raging mad to loving and sensitive in seconds, and I didn’t know how to cope with that. Hell, I didn’t know how to be with Hunter Knox, but with every passing minute it was harder to be without him either.

Oh, what the hell was I going to do about this?
