“Give Amy a day off soon.”

Hearing her talk about Amelia made my eyebrows shoot up.

“Did Miss Hart complain to you that I’m overworking her?”

“No, but I would really like to take her out to lunch. I should give her a performance review soon anyway.”

“You want to take my nanny out?” I was ok with my staff getting friendly with each other, but I was going to put my foot down if Emily was going to score with Amelia.

“You know I’m rooting for her and I think taking her out and giving her a day off would be a great way to thank her for the incredible job she’s been doing.”

I had my own way of thanking Amelia, and it involved her being handcuffed to my bed.

“The incredible job she’s been doing?”

“Mr. Knox.” She sighed. “Hunter. I spend more time with you than I do with anyone in my life. I know how hard the past couple of months have been for you. Your stress level was so high, I was actually worried. You were put under a lot of pressure with the funeral, and your baby niece, and you never got closure because the police couldn’t…”

“Emily.” She was the only employee I trusted and the only one who I could, on some degree, consider a confidant, but she was pushing a hard limit. “The point?”

“I apologize. The point is that you look better now. I know how important it was to you that Sofi was taken care of and now she is. That’s all I’m saying.”

“I see. You can take Amelia out whenever you want.” Except tonight because the kitten was mine tonight. “You are right. Amelia is very good at what she’s doing.”

“I’m glad.”

“Is that all?”

“Yes, sir.”

This time she left for good and I waited patiently for my invite do be delivered, so I could get to the rest of the things I had to address. When the black envelope with gold inscription finally landed on my desk, I picked it up and went for a very interesting round of shopping. My excitement grew with every second and I couldn’t fucking wait to go find Amelia and help her get ready for the party.

To my surprise, when I got home, long after the sunset, Amelia was not doing her makeup or her hair. She was in the kitchen, in black yoga pants and one of my Balmain t-shirts, and she was unloading the dishwasher. Sofi was sleeping peacefully in her car seat that was on top of the kitchen island and Amelia was so concentrated on her task, she didn’t hear me approach.

“Kitten.”

The word made her jump.

“M-Mr. Knox. Hi. You scared me.”

“Not my intention. Where’s the sitter?”

“I, well, she’s not here.”

The rustling in my chest was instant, but I had enough interactions with Amelia to become familiar with the feeling. She had a way of making my blood boil.

“Why, Amelia? Why thefuckis she not here when I notified you five days ago that Sofi needs a sitter for tonight?”

“I didn’t think there’s need for one anymore.”

I spoke fucking English when I told her to call the sitter, didn’t I?

“Explain.”

“You have said three words to me all weak. I assumed you changed your plans.” She shrugged and turned to put a glass in one of the cabinets.

I watched her back, hardly believing she was blowing me off like that. In the next moment, I had her slammed to my chest.

“Let me explain something, kitten. If I don’t tell you I changed my plans, that means I didn’t. You want to start tonight with a punishment? I was planning on showing you pleasure first.”
