“I don’t worry about that. If your friend works for me, she’s under a contract that specifically says that everyone at Knox Entertainment is prohibited from talking about me to the press. I doubt Poppy wants my lawyers to ruin her life.”
“You don’t have to sound so…ominous.”
“I am ominous when it comes to things that I care about. That includes you, Amelia. Come on, we’ll ask Emily to watch Sofi for a couple of hours.”
“Oh, why?”
I expected him to say hello and then send me on my merry way back to the house.
Before answering, he smiled at Sofi and kissed her hand.
“As much as I would love to teach my niece all the funny words she can repeat, I want to take you out for coffee.” He leaned in to whisper. “And have you suck my dick in my car.”
“Ok.” No hesitation in my voice.
“Take Sofi into Emily’s office while I go pick up my phone.”
Oh, boy. Hunter seemed very relaxed, but in the short walk to Emily’s office, I tensed like a violin chord. The last thing I wanted was for her to think I was someone hunting Hunter’s wealth and status. She wouldn’t hesitate to put me in my place. I knocked and she told me to come in.
“Hey, Emily.”
“Amy, How can I help you, dear? Do you need anything?”
“I, umm, Hunt…Mr. Knox asked if you could watch Sofi for a while.”
“Amy,” She raised from her chair and came around her desk. “Mr. Knox doesn’t ask, he orders. I will watch her, of course. Sofi and I got to know each other very well when she came to Las Vegas. We’ll hang out in the daycare.”
“You have a daycare here?”
“Third floor. Anything else?”
“She’s fed, but there’s an extra bottle of formula in her bag and some apple snacks. The bag is in the car, though. I can give you my driver’s number…”
“I know Scott very well. He’s been working for us for some time.” She looked briefly to the door. “I heard Mr. Knox’s door. You shouldn’t let him wait.”
There it was again, the elephant in the room Poppy mentioned earlier.
“Look, Emily…”
“I’m not here to ask questions, Amy. It’s not my place.”
“You are protective of him.”
“He’s a great boss. I can see he’s more relaxed and Sofi is thriving under your watch. You’re obviously dedicated to your job.”
“I’m dedicated to her. This little lady stole my heart.”
Hunter appeared in the door frame and we both turned to him.
“Emily, all covered?”
“Yes, sir. Enjoy your day.”
“Thank you.” He took my hand in his. “Let’s go.”
The moment we stepped into the elevator and the door closed he was on me, our mouths together, tongues entwined.
“It’s been too long since I’ve tasted you, kitten.”
“Is this your way of saying you’ve missed me?” He didn’t answer, just blinked, and I kissed his lips one more time. “Because I’ve missed you, too.”
