Chapter 19

Hunter

She nestled under my arm just like a kitten would do. What was it about this woman that had me so insanely desperate to have her next to me every fucking second of the day? Was it her sweet and flowery smell? Her pretty face? The body I loved to fuck? No, all that was nice, but it was her hope that was luring me. She told me she knew darkness, but she was here with me with hope shining in her amber-brown eyes, waiting for the future. At the other end, here I was ready for it all to end. She was the only light that was guiding me. Her and Sofi—the two women that kept making me want to pull through.

Beside me, Amelia stretched her body and then sighed.

“What is it, baby? Sore?”

“You know I am.” I did know. Her skin was deliciously red in all the places the rope bit into it.

“You didn’t use your safe word.”

“I didn’t say it was bad, Hunter. You were rough, but I enjoyed every moment.” She came close to kiss me softly. “You are such a…man. Strong, powerful. It feels good when you take me with all your force.”

“Get used to it.”

“I’m still mad at you.”

“Be mad tomorrow, baby.”

“I’m serious. You treated me like shit.”

Maybe I did.

“I told you over and over, Amelia. Don’t push me. Not on this subject. Elena…” Just for a second, I lost my breath, choking with grief. “My sister, baby. Thinking about her brings up a lot of bitterness.”

“You miss her.” It was a statement.

“All the time. In the past few years, we were distant. I was chained to my desk working and she was happy to finally live a normal life, going to school, having a baby, not worrying about what she’d eat the next day. She called me at least once a week, it was a rule, but I didn’t spend that much time around her. Just knowing my sister was happy and safe was enough.”

“Now she’s not there anymore. I get it, Hunter. You’re hurt and it’s your right to be. You’re allowed to mourn your sister, but don’t close yourself up. That’s why you’re rejecting Sofi, isn’t it? You don’t wanna let her into your life because of her mother?”

I sighed.

“I raised Elena myself and look what happened.”

“You won’t let anything happen to Sofi, baby. And you have nothing to blame yourself for. There is just one villain in this story—the murderer who took your sister’s life and will die in jail for it.”

“Can we stop talking about this?”

“On one condition. Two actually.”

“Let’s hear them and get it over with.”

“First, you need to keep your fucking temper in check, Knox. I’m just trying to help.”

“You know what,Hart?” I pushed my torso up to see her better. “I didn’t ask for help.”

She mirrored my move and soon we were eye to eye, scowling at each other.

“And what the fuck do you expect me to do? Stay behind and watch you while you let yourself be consumed by anger and pain?” And there she was, my she-devil showing her red stained horns again.

“That anger makes me fuck you better, so maybe you should say ‘thank you, sir’ and stay out of my business.” My frowned deepened.

“I can’t, jackass, because it’s not easy to look at the man you love and see him suffer.”

The time fucking stopped. We stayed still, neither of us daring to draw a breath. I couldn’t believe my fucking ears. Love me? Amelia loved me? I’d never been loved. I’d been chased and fucked by women, but never loved. What the fuck was there tolove?
