Chapter 20

Amelia

I took a huge weight off my chest after talking to Hunter. Opening up to him was scary, but in the end, it strengthened the bond between us. There were no more secrets left, nothing that could hurt us. Right? I hoped this was the case because I was so crazy in love with that man.

The past week had been incredible. Hunter spent every free moment at home with Sofi and me, and we created our own little bubble of bliss. We even had Emily and her wife over for dinner one night and it was nice to see Hunter relaxed and getting settled in this new balance we had. I was domesticating a god and damn if it didn’t feel good.

Today was another big day for us. Poppy had insisted I had to meet her for lunch and spill all the details about Hunter and me, plus she made a case about Hunter monopolizing my time. I took the day off to meet with her and got Hunter’s approval to disclose our relationship to my best friend. I wanted to call the sitter to be sure Sofi was looked over, but instead, her uncle volunteered to stay home with her, which made me a little nervous. It was the first time Hunter would be alone with Sofi for such a long period of time. I spent an hour instructing him, going through Sofi’s routine and letting him know all there was to do.

Poppy had the entire day planned. We went to lunch at one of Hunter’s restaurants, we had matching manicures and a massage, and we did some shopping. All the gossip and girl time was good for me, but then while we were searching though shops, we passed a baby store and I had to stop to look for something for Sofi.

“This is cute,” I said, picking up a onesie that had the words’Daddy’s princesswritten in pink glittery letters.

“Yeah, it is. Uh, do you think they have one withUncle’s princess?I bet yourboyfriendwould love it.”

“You’re really enjoying teasing me about this thing between Hunter and me, aren’t you?”

“Oh, yeah. You’re dating my boss. No, scratch that, you’re dating the boss of half the people in Las Vegas.”

“He is also my boss.”

“Case in point.” She laughed it off and then helped me pick out a couple of baby dresses. “You really love Sofi, don’t you?”

“Of course I do. Why?”

“I don’t know. It’s your day off and you can’t help buying her things. I was just thinking.”

“She is growing up really fast, so clothes are needed. It makes me happy to buy her things.”

“I’m glad, Amy. I’m glad you found that little happy place. Hey, will you being with Hunter mean I’ll have to pay all the rent on my own?”

“No. I’ll cover it. I wouldn’t leave you high and dry.”

“Gah, he’s so much better than Jackson, babe. I love him. I love Hunter Knox. He’s perfect for you.”

She had no idea.

“Good, Poppy, I’m glad. I love him too.”

“Yeah, I can see it on your face.”

She spent the remaining time we had together listing all the things that made Hunter perfect for me, like I needed convincing. It was good to have my best friend’s approval because Poppy was family and I wanted her to like the man in my life.

We spent a little more time in town than we planned and when I got back home, the light of the day was already dimming. The sunset looked beautiful from up on the hill.

When I walked through the front door, the first thing I saw was Georgia Andrews, Sofi’s usual babysitter, in the middle of the living room, picking up toys.

“Georgia,” I called to her. “Oh, no. Hunter was overwhelmed, wasn’t he? I told him to call you when I left.”

“Hello, Miss Hart. Mr. Knox called me a few hours ago, he had to go straight into the office. He didn’t say much, but he left an envelope that someone should come pick up.”

What was going on? It was a little too late for work, but considering the spectrum of Hunter’s business, nothing was impossible.

“An envelope?”

“It’s right there on the table.”

“Ok. Umm, Georgia, you’re free to go. Sofi?”
