“Shh. No more of that. Your hands are clean. I’m the one who took his life, and this is the last time we’ll speak of it.”

“Are you ok? This must have been hell for you.”

Hell was seeing her half-dead on the ground.

“I’m in love, Amelia. And I’m finally at peace with myself. Elena is not a memory I should run from and now I know. You pushed me to see that.”

“You’re an amazing brother to her, Hunter.”

“I was.”

“You’ll always be. Elena will live as long as you don’t let her memory fade. As long as you and Sofi are happy, she’ll be happy.”

I couldn’t help feeling in awe of Amelia Hart. She was fucking amazing. A woman with the heart of an angel and the body of a seductress. She was mine. All mine. Forever.

“I’ll be happy as long as I have you. I’m never letting you go, Amelia.”

“I’ll never wanna leave,” she replied, with no hesitation.

“You can try, kitten, but I’ll just catch you and turn your ass red. After all, you already know bad girls get punished.”

Epilogue – 4 years later

Amelia

Hunter and I had a September wedding. Thanks to Emily and her amazing organizing skills, everything looked like a dream. The flowers, the terrace, the string quartet that played had all made me feel like the most special girl in the world. And of course, Hunter.

We spoke our vows at sunset in front of a small gathering of close friends. Henry was Hunter’s best man and he found new ways to make my cheeks flush during the ceremony. He was the sweetest guy in the world and such a good friend to my husband, but only if he’d forget that night in the parking lot, it would be so much easier for me to relax around him. One of the things I’d noticed was that he and my maid of honor, Poppy, hadn’t stopped looking at each other for most of the night. Should I be worried that an Australian heartbreaker was eyeing my best friend?

Sofi stole the show again, in her perfect puffy dress. Everyone sighed in awe when she walked down the aisle to spread pink rose petals. She grew up to be such a special child. Every day was a wonder with her. Hunter gave me so much that night he decided to make the three of us a family. His heart was precious enough, but them both? There was no greater gift that God could give me.

My husband. The word hadn’t felt weird on my tongue, because that’s how I thought about him in past years anyway. I didn’t need a piece of paper to tell me I’ll always be in love with him. I didn’t need his last name to know I belonged to my man forever. Mr. Knox, on the other hand, was very persuasive. He proposed to me two years ago and I had no hesitation in saying yes, but I also wasn’t in any rush to plan a wedding. At that time, I was too busy between Sofi, him, and work to have the energy to think about it.

I never ended up going back to teaching, but the Hunter Knox foundation for children was the most amazing project I’d been part of. We got to do so much good for orphans all over the country. It gave me such fulfillment that I had a chance to correct some of the wrong that was done to those children. Between that and coming home to the most amazing two people in the world—my Sofi and my Hunter—I wasn’t missing anything. But he was. He needed me to sign our marriage certificate. It was important for my domineering, crazy possessive man to have it in writing that I was his, so now we have it.

I retreated a little so I could watch over the party from afar for a second with a glass of champagne in my hands, but Hunter found me and I felt his strong arms wrapping around my waist.

“Hello, wife.”

“Hello, husband.” I kissed his cheek. I liked kitten much better, but today he got to call me that. “You promised Sofi a dance, baby. Don’t disappoint her.”

“I will dance with her soon. I just wanted a moment with you.”

I couldn’t help my giggle.

“You’re going to have eternity with me.”

“Nothing makes me happier, Amelia. You know how much I love you.” I did know, because those were the first words he told me in the morning and the last before we went to bed. “I have a present for you.”

“I have a present for you too, my husband.”

Poppy helped me pick out my wedding dress. A soft ivory white satin summer dress with pearls on the front. The accessories underneath, well, those I picked out myself.

“You go first, then,” he said and I gave him a malicious smile.

I took his wrist and guided his hand up my leg until he could feel my garter. The leather harness was biting into my skin, contrasting with the virginal delicacy of the dress.

“Fuck,” he said through his teeth. “Are you trying to kill me? I won’t be able to be alone with you for hours.”
