“Umm, ok.”

“Here.” I pulled up the documents Emily drafted the other night. “One of them is your contract where you will find all the conditions that we discussed yesterday, plus a few others.”

“Others?”

“Yesterday we talked about your benefits, but not so much about your obligations.”

“Keep the baby healthy and happy.”

That and a few others that I came up with last night.

“Yes, there are also restrictions. If you leave the premises with the child, you will have to inform Raoul of your location and when you plan to come back.”

“But I’m allowed to take her out, right?”

“Yes. Letting someone know where you are and where you’re going is a safety precaution.”

“Ok. I understand.”

Fuck, she was even more attractive when she complied without a fight and looked up at me with that pair of big, brown eyes.

“You can take one day off every week, whichever you choose, and you can call a sitter to watch Sofi, but you are not allowed to have visitors. This is my house and I will not allow you to parade a boyfriend, or any type of stranger around here.” This was one of the things that I had Emily add late last night, mostly because I was sure there were some fuckers out there sniffing around Amelia Hart and I wasn’t going to let any get past my gate where my niece lives, but also because I want every man to stay the fuck away. If I couldn’t have her, then no one could.

“Pardon?” She looked at me with round eyes.

“No men in the house, Miss Hart. You are not going to have sexual affairs under my roof while you’re watching my niece.”

“What men?”

“Boyfriends, friends, whatever.”

She blinked, weighing my words while I was frowning at her from the other side of the desk. What didn’t she understand? I knew for a fact I didn’t stutter.

“What if I want to have a woman over?”

I felt slapped across the face. I was here forcing my dick to stay down and she was into girls?

“I do not care about your sexual preferences, Miss Hart.” That was a lie. I cared. I cared a lot.

“No, I meant a friend. Can my best friend visit me or do I have to meet her only outside of your house, Mr. Knox? She’s also one of your employees.”

“What?”

“She works as a bartender at Shangri-la. We’re quite close.”

I had no idea who was working in my clubs and bars, but learning that she was indeed not romantically involved with a woman made me feel generous.

“Since your friend works for me, she is under an NDA, so I guess you could have her over, but don’t make a habit out of it. I don’t like too many people in my home. This reminds me,”—I pushed another set of papers towards her.—“you also have to sign this.”

“What is this?”

“Non-disclosure agreement. It’s mandatory for everyone who worksunderme.” I could read on her face that she wasn’t quite caught up to what I was saying. “It means you can’t say anything about me or what you see here to anyone. Especially not the press.”

“I would never.”

“I’ll believe it when you sign it, Miss Hart. This is not a joke.”

She took the golden pen engraved with my name and signed the paper without hesitation. Good, because this was non-negotiable. I couldn’t give a shit she was too intimidated to look in my eyes most of the time, or that Emily said she trusted Amelia Hart was a good upstanding citizen. The papers would always chase a story and I wasn’t going to let her give them one, especially when Sofi and my sister could be dragged into it.
