“Let’s do it. Let’s get married.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. Let’s do this. We only have one life. If worse comes to worse, I could always tamper with the registry and hide it from the Guild. There is no way they would know. I don’t know why I never thought of that before.”

“It’s about damn time, woman. My shoes are getting worn from running after you for so long.”

I giggled at his silliness.

“Come on.”

“Where are we going?”

“To find a chapel.”

“Now? Are you crazy? This is Sass and Mace’s wedding!”

“Ask me if I give a fuck. It should have been mine and yours.”

Eric pulled my hand until we got to his car and drove to the nearest chapel he could find, only to discover that getting married in Bora Bora was a lot harder than he thought.

“What do you mean I can’t get married?” he thundered.

“Sir, you need a marriage document for foreign residents to get married. In addition, you must submit all the required documents to the town hall at least 45 days before the wedding. I’m truly sorry, but this cannot be done.”

“Come on, Egghead,” I said as I tried to pull him away from the priest.

“I can’t believe that happened. They should change this country’s laws!” he shouted.

“Don’t be like that, he’s just doing his job. You know there are rules everywhere. You need a license to get married, even in Vegas,” I stated calmly and rationally.

“Well, I don’t need a priest to tell me you belong to me.”

“Neither do I.”

“So, how about we do it without him?”

“What do you mean?” I looked at him curiously.

“Think about it. What is marriage to you? The paper?”

“No. It’s the commitment. My promise that I will spend the rest of my life with you and only you.”

“Then let’s do that. Here, tonight. Let’s make our own wedding. We can plan a ceremony with our friends after we take down the Guild to make you officially mine,” he added excitedly.

“I’ve always been yours, Egghead,” I told him as I gently caressed his face. “But yes, let us be officially together for anything that counts. No more women on your end.”

“No more men on yours.”

“Even if we don’t see each other for years.”

“Yes. Let’s do it. Where?”

“On the beach. Tonight.”

“All right, I will meet you there in exactly thirty minutes.”

“Why not now?”
