Chapter 26

Surinam Gonzalez

Undisclosed location

Aman and a woman are having sex in the middle of a dark forest. After 15 minutes, the man gets up and says, “Damn, I wish I had a flashlight!”

The woman says, “Me too, you’ve been eating grass for the past ten minutes!”

I was lying on a chair enjoying the sun and telling myself bad raunchy jokes to pass time as Orion and Winslow fought for the - insert whichever number you want here - time.

I’d never met a couple fight as much as those two. It made me glad I wasn’t in a relationship.

“This is a piss poor idea,” Winslow voiced as he punched the bag in front of him repeatedly while sweat poured off his muscles in drove.

I’ve been training with him for the past two days and, let me tell you, that man was seriously fine. I’d have given him the ride of all rides if Orion wasn’t such a vicious little thing.

But alas, she was, and my mama didn’t raise a dumbass.

Hit. Hit. Double hit. The bag parachuted backward with that last one. The thing was so old, I wasn’t sure it would survive someone as strong as Orion’s husband hitting it, but beggars couldn’t be choosers.

The man needed to calm down, because with the mood he was in, he would fuck everything up by killing the first guard he could get his hands on.

Sarah bombarded her husband with this new plan of hers after his fight. To say he wasn’t thrilled is like saying the sky is blue and the sun, yellow.

They had a huge argument about it until I told him this was the only plan we had, and he could shove his worry up his ass.

The big guy was acting like we were sending Snow White to the Forest by herself. We’re talking about O-fucking-rion here. She is one of the toughest bitches I know.

Unless he lived under a rock, he had to have an idea what she was capable of. Plus, the Butcher’s completely obsessed with her. We had to take our shot.

“Do you have a better idea?” Sarah quizzed.

Instead of answering, he continued killing the punching bag. He was probably imagining it was my head or something.

“Did you get what we need?” I asked the scared boy, who nodded as he handed me a black outfit.

“Are you sure this is going to work?” Diego questioned. “What if they kill everyone?”

“They can’t. The Tournament has started, and people are vested in its results. A lot of money is riding on this. The organizers need to see it through,” I explained to him for what felt like the hundredth time.

“And you will keep your promise to me and my mother?” he asked Orion, ignoring my ass.

She looked at the boy and gently patted him on the shoulder. “I give you my word, Diego. I will get you off this island if it’s the last thing we do.”

“Does everyone know their role?” Eric inquired one last time.

“Yes.”

“Then, let’s go,” I said impatiently. “The sooner we get off this island, the better. I’ve had enough sun to last me a lifetime. I’m moving to Alaska after this.”

At 6:00PM, the sun set, and the overnight lights of the prison turned on. The yard emptied itself as the kitchen began preparing meals. The prisoners walked into their cells in a single line and got ready for the night.

At 6:35PM, Orion swallowed the pill Diego slipped under her pillow.

At 7:10PM, the pill did what it was meant to do, and Orion went into convulsions.

“Guards! Guards! She’s choking!” I screamed and smiled when the rest of the prisoners followed.
