“You believe he’ll cross borders?” Calum queried.

“Yes. He’ll invade Asia first and then Europe.”

“And go against Aslanov and Wei?”

“Yes.”

“That would be suicide,” Kennedy gasped. Ivy is the bleeding heart in our group. She was also the person tasked with making sure we were well received by the members.

“Yes, it would, but he’s a man with nothing to lose. If I were Baxter, I’d use part of the profit to refurbish their arsenal and spend the rest on measures to strengthen my position,” I told them as I tapped my pen distractedly. “This brings me to the second item on the agenda. Enforcer Scott, give me a rundown on the latest numbers we have.”

“After the Table decreed the dismantlement order, the constituents became nervous. They don’t know what’s going on and are waiting to see where the chips fall before positioning themselves.

The good news is the current state of the previous administration doesn’t bode well for Baxter. When people realize how precarious his finances are, many of them will jump ship.”

“Do you have a more precise number?” Angel probed.

“Yes, as of our last count, we’ve gained approximately ten thousand men and women.”

“And they have all been vetoed?” Graysen asked, making Calum look at him like he was an insect.

“Yes. By my team.”

“Could Baxter decree a conscription order?” Angel inquired.

“Technically speaking, he could. Members will not view the General as the rightful leader as long as the first election hasn’t taken place. This means Baxter could order them to join the fight,” Calum answered.

“How much of an impact would a conscription order have on his image?” I asked Ivy.

“Forcing the people into joining the fight would be a risky move on General Baxter’s part.

There could be a public outcry from those forced to enroll, not to mention from their families. The bad press alone would give you additional weight.

My recommendation is to strike first and give everyone an order to stand down,” Ivy answered me.

“Speak with Lieutenant Murdoch to coordinate this.”

“Understood, Sire.”

A commotion at the door halted what I was about to say.

“…I want to speak with him, NOW!” Sass screamed as she opened the door to the boardroom while my brother tried to calm her down and her guards and mine went head-to-head.

“Gentlemen, Ivy, if you’ll excuse me.”

“Of course, General.”

I got up and headed toward my pain in the ass sister-in-law. “This way.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love Sassy. She’s been a good friend to me, an amazing wife to my brother and the best mother to the cutest little girl in the universe.

But ever since she’s “rediscovered” herself in Las Vegas, she’s been a handful. I don’t begrudge my brother the tasks of reigning her in.

“Mind telling me what’s going on?” I inquired when I closed the door to my office and sat behind my desk.

My ever-faithful bodyguard, Jonas, was the only personnel allowed in.

I’d have asked him to leave if it’d done any good. But Jonas and his family have been with me forever. They only listened to me when it suited them. Thankfully, I trusted him with my life.
