Take what just happened, for example. I now knew what it felt like to be zapped by this thing around my throat. I also had firsthand knowledge of what I could and couldn’t do when they use it on me.

More importantly, I knew whoever was behind my presence here wanted me alive for a purpose because the stunt I just pulled would have gotten anyone else killed.

“Why are you smiling? Do you think this is a game?” the guard snarled.

I turned away with just enough time to protect my stomach from his kick, and pain exploded in my side, making me groan.

“Está louco? Ela não deve ser prejudicada até à luta, seu estúpido idiota.” Are you crazy? She isn’t to be harmed until the fight, you stupid asshole.

“Desculpa, patrão.” I’m sorry, boss.

“Coloca-a no confinamento solitário antes que Hayes a descubra e a mate.” Put her into solitary confinement before Hayes finds out and kills you.

The man didn’t argue and unceremoniously threw me into a twelve-by-twelve prison cell with no windows.

“Enjoy the silence, you whore,” he spat as he closed the door.

I waited until everyone left before curling into a ball and crying out in pain.

How was I going to get out of this mess? I was here alone and didn’t know what they wanted from me, but knowing who their boss was, it couldn’t possibly be good.

I couldn’t call out to anyone. Even if by some miracle, I was able to send a message out there, the old man would have wiped out all roads leading to this island. There was no way he would have wanted whatever was happening here to be traced to him.

“Stop,” I gritted out as my mind stomped on the rising panic.

I was at my best when my head was free from clutter. If I wanted to get out of here, I needed to be at the top of my game.

I ignored the camera in the top right of the room and held on to my side as I got into the lotus position with great difficulty.

When I finally entered a state of complete detachment, three words popped into my mind.

Analyze. Detect. Kill.
