I ignored them as best as I could while rubbing my forehead to calm me down. When that didn’t work, I splashed my face with water and exhaled sharply.
How was I going to get out of this cluster fuck? How???
“Where are we going after this, Romana?”
“How would you feel about driving down Alcala Park Boulevard to the USD hockey house after-party?”
The girls looked at their leader with hope. “We can go for real?”
“Yes.”
“But what about the pledges?”
“Those who can still stand up can come with us. It will be good for their soul. They’ve been doing our shit work for the past three weeks.”
“Can the boys of Kapa Kapa Kapa come too?”
“Sure, why not.”
“Yes! I can’t wait. I hear USD parties are epic. Plus, their hockey house has the most handsome jocks. Did you know Dylan Harris played for them?”
“No, he doesn’t. That’s Cameron Harris. You’re getting them confused.”
“I am?” the girl laughed.
“Yes, you are. Totally. I met him, by the way.”
“You did? When?”
“Tonight, at Anton’s. Why do you think Lauren dropped us like a stone?”
“Awww, that would explain it. Not that I approve of what she did, but I would have done the same thing if a 6’3”, handsomer-than-God hockey player asked me to go with him,” Blond number 2 said wistfully.
“Of course you would, that’s why you’re such a slut,” Blond number one teased.
“Excuse me?” I tapped the girl named Romana on the shoulder and she looked at me with a question mark.
“Yes?”
“My name is Sarah, and I need your help. I’m being held against my will.” The girl frowned while her friends laughed.
“Is this a joke?”
“No, I’m dead serious. Did you see a man waiting for me outside?”
“Yes.”
“He and his friends are kidnapping me.” The two college girls who’d been laughing not a second ago immediately stopped.
“If this is true, we need to call the police,” Romana replied, still unsure if this was real or not.
“You can’t,” I told her anxiously.
“Why?”
“Because they will kill me if you do. I don’t have a lot of time for an explanation. They’re going to come for me soon. But I’m being taken by force to Sedona. They want me to join their organization.”
