“Why would you want to go after them?” The two siblings closed up immediately.

“We have our reasons.”

“Not good enough. Trust is a two-way street. If I’m here, it’s because you want something from me, and I’m not about to give it to you unless you tell me why.”

Mace looked at his brother, who grew harder than a rock, before answering my question, “You’re not the only person being held prisoner, and that’s all I’ll say about it.”

Something passed between us. An understanding that hadn’t been there before that.

“Are you in or not?” Gabriel inquired impatiently.

I rubbed my forehead because this had all the markings of a duel between David and Goliath.

But unlike the outcome of that biblical confrontation, I sure as heck wasn’t convinced a bunch of moronic kids could do anything against such a powerful organization.

This said, blondie had a point. What other options did I have?

“I’m listening.”

The blond boy clapped his hands in glee and asked, “What do you need to build an empire?”

“Information,” I answered immediately, making all three boys look at me.

“Money.” This from Mace.

“An Army.” Eric.

“Yes, to all the above. And to get those, you need a plan.” Gabriel Winthrop’s smile made me shudder.
