“I’ve been talking quite a bit to Robert now that I have his number.”

“I bet you have.” Her voice is filled with so much sarcasm that I laugh.

“You still haven’t told me what hotel to drop you off at,” she reminds me, and I give her a suggestive smile because she knows damn well why I haven’t told her where to go.

“Yes, I know,” I slowly admit. “I’ve been enjoying our car ride together.” She briefly stares at me before turning her gaze back to the road. I watch her swallow her emotions and I know without a single doubt she can still feel that sizzling electricity between us. I want nothing more than for her to park the car so I can take her in my arms and ravish her. I’m not a patient man by any means, but I know to have Jenna in my life forever, things need to go at her pace.

Not to mention the one big problem standing in my way: her boyfriend.

“I have work to do today, so please, what hotel are you staying at?” Her voice is filled with tired resignation, and I can tell it’s time for this to end.

“I’m staying at the Ritz-Carlton.” She nods and steers the car in that direction.

“Please consider having dinner with me because we need to talk about my schedule. Filming doesn’t start for another two weeks, so I would like to spend as much time with Avery as possible. I want to take her to school, pick her up, go sight-seeing with her, and eat meals with her. Everything that normal families do with each other, I want to do. I need you to be there with us for the time being so she gets comfortable with me, and then eventually, start doing things with just her and me.”

Despite my focus on winning Jenna back, it’s true that she’s an intricate part of helping Avery transition full time into my life. I need her to realize the importance of this and her being a willing participant will only make things smoother.

“I also would like for you to go house hunting with me so you can feel comfortable in the home I pick out for her.” She gives me a raised eyebrow but doesn’t say anything, so I continue. “Once filming begins, my schedule is going to be limited for the next three months. I’m going to try to work with the director to see if we can shoot more night scenes, but I don’t know if he’ll agree to that. This is another reason why I’ll need your help.”

She remains silent and I give her time to marinate on what I’ve asked of her. We stay that way when she pulls up to the curb of the hotel and puts the car in park. She looks out the window at all the paparazzi taking our photo and sighs.

“I’ll work on trying to be accessible for you,” she says softly and my heart soars with gratitude.

And victory.

“Thank you, Jenna. You truly don’t know what this means to me. I’ll see you later for school pick up.” I don’t try to steal a kiss on the cheek this time, not with so many paps taking our photo. I swiftly exit the car and shut the door. I watch her pull away with regret, hating these circumstances that we are under. Hating that we are not under the same roof together.

Patience, Cal, I remind myself. It will happen one day.

I make my way into the hotel and wonder what her plans are for tonight. Is she seeing him? The thought makes me grind my teeth together in jealousy and then I remember the conversation I had with Thomas and the card he gave me for someone who I can hire to follow Jenna. I take the elevator to my suite and once I arrive, I rummage through the stacks of paper that are on my desk until I find the business card for Chase Wilson. I dial his number.

“Chase Wilson here.” He identifies himself on the third ring, his voice deep and crisp.

“Chase, this is Cal Harrington. I received your name and number from Thomas Black.”

He’s silent for a moment, as if he’s deciding whether he believes who I am. “What can I do for you?” he finally asks with hesitancy.

“I have a business proposition for you that I would like to discuss in person. Do you have time to meet with me today?”

“I can meet you right now,” he says, his voice still sounding skeptical.

“Brilliant. I’m staying at the Ritz-Carlton. Check in at the front desk and I will approve you to be escorted up.”

“See you in twenty minutes,” he says and hangs up.

I put down my phone and make my way to my bedroom to freshen up and change. Having Jenna followed might not be the ethical thing to do, but it will give me peace of mind knowing she’s always being watched and kept safe.
