ChapterFifteen

The following evening,I’m sitting in my trailer going over my lines for the next scene we’re about to shoot when I get a text from Jenna.

Jenna: I just want to make you aware that I’m hiring a sitter for tonight.

I frown at this. Why does she need a sitter? Is she going out with Jax? Are they trying to reconcile?

The fuck they are if I have a say in it.

Me: Is Robert not available to watch her? Are you comfortable trusting a stranger?

I know she’ll get upset if I ask where she’s going because in her mind, it’s none of my business. I need to figure out how to find out her whereabouts for tonight and the only one who will tell me is Robert.

Jenna: Robert will be with me tonight and this babysitter has been watching Avery since she was a baby. I trust her completely.

Relief washes over me knowing she’ll be with Robert and not Jax. Before responding back to her, I quickly call Robert for details. “Are you going out with Jenna tonight?”

“I was just about to call you. Yes, she called and said she wanted to go to O'Malley's, which is our usual hangout that’s only a couple of blocks from her place. Apparently, it’s been a rough day for her.”

“Why, because of Jax?”

“I’m sure that was part of it, but…” he pauses before continuing. “You know how she has a weekly segment at News Channel 3?”

“Yes.” I respond and I already know what’s coming next before he even says it.

“They dropped it effective immediately,” he says, confirming my suspicions.

“Why?” I question with a low voice.

“You know why, Cal,” he sighs, and I do. They dropped her because of the “scandal” with me.

“Shit,” I mutter, pissed off because even if I called the producer to talk some sense into them, Jenna would get mad at me for meddling.

“So, she wants to blow off some steam. Both Layla and I will be with her tonight. She’ll be fine.”

“Okay,” I tell him, but something doesn’t sit right with me about this.

I hang up with Robert and send Chase a text, letting him know where and who she’ll be with tonight. He confirms within seconds that he’ll be there and I respond back to Jenna, thanking her for letting me know about the sitter.

I try to re-focus back on my script, but my mind keeps wandering back to her. Being associated with me is hurting her career and I don’t know how to make that better. I just have to pray that the circus revolving around our story will die down soon and things will go back to normal for her.

“Mr. Harrington, there’s a man named Chase Wilson outside claiming he has an emergency situation that needs your attention.”

My heart starts to pound at the production assistant’s words, and I bolt from talking to the director and run directly to the opening of the building. It’s 11:30 at night and for Chase to show up at the set means something’s happened tonight while Jenna was out. I see him in the distance, pacing back and forth and I yell out his name.

“Jenna was ambushed by the paparazzi on her way home from the bar. Physically, she’s fine, but mentally she’s traumatized.”

“What the fuck?” I roar, my eyes almost bulging out of their sockets from my rage. “Where the hell were Robert and Layla? Where the hell wereyou?”

“Calm down and let me explain,” he says, holding his hands up. “I was inside, watching them all night long. I ordered food and sat at the end of the bar so they couldn’t see me. Jenna knows who I am, so I didn’t want her to notice my presence. After a couple of hours, they all got up and it looked like they were going to leave together. I paid my bill and ran to the bathroom. By the time I got outside, I didn’t see Robert and Layla anywhere and Jenna was by herself, surrounded by Danny Salari and his thugs. From what I could tell when I ran toward them, they had her surrounded and were blinding her with their flashes to the point that she was cowering on the ground, hiding her head underneath her arms. I pulled out my phone and took video while I ran to her so that you can have evidence to press charges.”

“Where is she?” My mind visualizes what she must have looked like, how scared she had to have been and how I want to fucking kill Danny Salari.

“She’s home, passed out in bed from the shock of it all. Robert must’ve been still inside the bar when Jenna initially left and saw the commotion as he was leaving because he came running over to help me get her home when he saw I was carrying her to her building. As soon as we got her safely inside, he called the police officer you guys were working with regarding the death threat. He’s at Jenna’s right now talking with him.”

“Where was Layla?”
