“Dane.” I drop my head back, enjoying the pleasure.

“Need more.” He drops to his knees as he slides my ass all the way to the edge of the desk. His tongue takes over where his fingers left off as he devours me. I grip the side of the desk as my orgasm starts to push down on me. When he sucks my clit into his mouth, taking long pulls, I come, crying out his name.

He kisses the inside of my thighs as he stands. I go for his belt, but he stops me, pulling my panties back over to cover me before righting my dress.

“What the heck?” I huff, making him smile.

“I’ll fuck you soon, but we have a guest. It's why I came looking for you.”

“Dane!” I smack his chest. “You could have led with that. I can’t believe you made them wait while you were…”

“Eating my wife’s pussy? Who can blame me?” I roll my eyes at him but lose at fighting my smile. He takes my hand, leading me out of the office.

When I enter the family room, there is a woman in a suit, and if I had to guess the man standing next to her is a cop.

“Hi. I’m Judith, and this here is Detective Clark.” They both hold their hands out for me to take. “It really is a pleasure to meet you. It’s incredible what you and Fawn have done here in New Hope.”

“Thank you.” I try not to fidget.

“On with it. She’s getting restless,” Dane says, pulling me into his side.

“We’re actually here about Faith.” I instantly feel sick to my stomach. Oh no. I always worry that one day something might pop up and someone will try to take her from us. Over my dead body will that ever happen but still. That little girl is mine and Dane’s.

“I’d be careful what you might say next,” Dane warns. The woman’s face actually softens, not mad at Dane’s veiled threat.

“We’re not here to take Faith or dispute anything. Rest assured. It’s actually the opposite,” she says. What the heck would be the opposite of that? “When Faith's birth mother gave birth to Faith, she actually gave birth to a little boy that day as well. Twins.” I hear her words, but my mind can’t seem to process them. So many thoughts run through my mind at once. How will Faith react to this news? How did no one know about this?

If Dane didn’t have a hold on me, my legs might have given out. She keeps going.

“She thought about putting them both up for adoption but thought maybe she could handle taking care of one of them, so she took Faith.”

“Can we meet him?” I ask. We’re not talking about some distant family. This is Faith’s sibling. Her twin brother, no less.

“We were hoping for a bit more than that. Knox needs a home. He’s been bouncing around the system for a while before I took over his case.”

“Yes,” I say without hesitation. Judith looks to Dane for his confirmation too.

“You heard my wife. Her word tends to be the law around here.” He drops a kiss on the top of my head.

“This is what I think he needs. Some love in his life. He’s angry at the world right now.” My heart breaks for the boy. To have your parents cast you aside but keep one child. “A few of the homes weren’t good places and have been shut down. It was actually Knox who brought that to my attention.”

“After he almost killed his last foster dad,” Clark chimes in. Holy crap.

“He had it coming,” Judith snaps back at the detective.

“Where is he? I want to see him. Dane?” I look up to my husband.

“We’ll get it worked out,” he says. His word is as good as it is being done. “Can you take us to him?”

“Yes, that’s actually why Clark is here. He’s in juvenile hall,” she informs us.

And I know there is a story there…

BEAUTY AND THE OUTCAST

The new girl. I didn’t even see her until it was too late. She saw me, though. The worst parts of me. My fists and my rage. It’s the only face I ever show, the one way I can greet the world without getting hurt again.

I’m a fighter, and I’m scarred. Too scarred for a girl like her. But the moment I see her, I can’t stop all the feelings that try to churn to the surface. Whitney brings them out in me so easily. I try to stay away from her, to tamp down my emotions.

But I can’t. And when I realize she may be just as broken as me … I finally see that her broken pieces and mine will make both of us whole.
