“Come on!” Jenna yells to Maia from across the cabin. “We’re doing mani-pedis.”

Maia’s brow furrows as she lifts her head off my chest. “Since when do you even like that?”

“I hate manicures, but I love pedicures,” Jenna says.

“Besides, it’s for me, too,” Leigh says, leaning her head down so it’s right next to Maia’s ear. “I’m huge, I can’t reach my toes, and I’m going to be pushing a very large human out of a very small hole—”

“Too much!” Leo yells.

“Very soon,” Leigh continues, unfazed. “I want to feel pretty and girly. Plus, your mom is the best at this and she’s already waiting with nail polish, so come on.”

Leigh gives Maia’s hair a flip, then walks away. Maia glances up at me. “I guess I have to move from my comfy spot.”

I softly kiss her forehead. “Go have fun.”

She gives me a sloppy kiss on the cheek, then hops off the couch. I think about giving her ass a slap, but Leo is four feet away, so I behave. There will be plenty of time for that.

My stomach flips, thinking about getting her alone in our suite. The look on her face when we first walked in was everything I wanted and more. It has a gorgeous fireplace with a chaise next to it. Maia made it clear that should be a number one priority for having sex on. We then started kissing, and I almost had my way with her against the wall, but remembering we’d left the doors connecting the cottage to the main house open, we refrained.

Last night, we had Harper in the room with us, though, thankfully, there’s a small nook that keeps her separated from us. But tonight, Veronica is going to take Harper. At least, that’s the plan.

It’s supposed to snow in a little while and when it does, I’m going to take Maia out for a walk and hopefully, put a ring on it.

That sounds stupid.

Whatever.

I’m going to propose.

Hence the girls doing nails right now, so she’ll have a fresh manicure for ring pictures.

I tried to think of every possible thing I could. I want this to be perfect for her. After everything she’s been through, she deserves it.

Maia is snuggled against me on the couch, reading book after book to Harper. She’s become very demanding about books lately, even if she doesn’t let Maia read more than two words on each page.

“’Gain,” Harper chirps when Maia closes her favorite book. The one she’s just read four times.

“How about a new book?”

Maia reaches for another book as Harper shrieks, “’Gain!”

Maia tilts her head from the noise and winces.

“How about if Poppa reads you the book?” Leo says, scooping Harper and the book up.

“Poppa!”

“Thank you,” Maia whispers.

Leo shoots a wink in our direction, but I’m not sure if it’s for Maia or me. Because it’s starting to snow.

Maia nestles against me again, taking in the shimmering dark blue nail polish on her fingers and how it sparkles in the light.

Fuck, I’m so ready to add some more sparkle to that hand.

Micah pulls at the curtain on one of the French doors leading to the patio. “I think I’m gonna go for a walk and take some pictures. Anyone want to join me?”
