I watch Maia carefully lick her spoon clean. Did I say carefully? I meant sensually. She knows exactly what she’s doing. Just like she did last year. And I can’t take my eyes off her.

She twists her tongue around the spoon one more time, then sets it down, leaning forward over the table. “Do you wish my tongue was on you?”

“Always.” I meet her at the center of the table and kiss her luscious lips.

She leans back, smiling. “Tonight was perfect. Thank you for planning this. I’m not sure I ever thanked you for it last year—”

“Oh, you thanked me.”

Her eyes flare and she hits me with her napkin. “Not like that. Seriously, I appreciate it. I love how thoughtful you are. You make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”

I can’t hide my smile when she says that. It’s exactly how I want her to feel.Always.

“I love you. And I love making you feel special.”

“Well, hopefully I return the favor.”

I tilt my head. “Do you really not know that?”

“I—”

“Here’s your card and receipt. You’re all set,” the waitress says, setting the check booklet back on the table.

“Thanks,” I say, putting the card back in my wallet, then rising from the table. I grab my jacket, then step over to Maia to help her slide hers on.

“Babe, you don’t have to—”

Wrapping an arm around her waist, I brush my lips over hers. “I want to.”

The intensity of her inhale reminds me we’re in a public place. I slide my hand into hers and lead her out of the restaurant.

Since we only live a few blocks from River Row Steakhouse—which has become our special spot—we walked to the restaurant. The cold winter night air does nothing to dull the heat between us as we walk back to the apartment.

“So, you didn’t answer me earlier.”

“Huh?” she asks, looking up at me.

“Do you know how amazing you make me feel?”

A blush rises in her cheeks, and I love that I still have that effect on her.

“I guess, sometimes, I don’t think I’m doing much for you.”

“Why doesn’t that surprise me? It’s second nature for you to be thoughtful. You don’t even realize you’re doing it. But you are. You rub my shoulders when I’m tired. You make sure my favorite snacks are always in the house. You send me emails when you see a book on sale that you think I’ll like. You make it a point to add movies you think I’ll like to our watchlist. When I have to work late, you always have a plate of food ready to be warmed up. Hell, even just the way you play with my hair when we’re sitting on the couch together. I always feel like the center of your world—which is crazy, because you have Harper. You might feel like the luckiest girl in the world, but I feel like the luckiest guy. I love you.”

I stop and pull her to me, giving her a steamy kiss. When we pull apart, her eyes are filled with desire. “Damn it, Vin. We still have two blocks to walk.”

I give her ass a firm squeeze then a slap. “Better go quick, then.”

We start walking again, faster than before. Mostly. Occasionally, we stop for a quick make out session.

When we get back to the apartment, we barely make it up the steps. I already have my hands inside her coat, and she’s fumbling with the keys, attempting not to break our kiss as she unlocks the door.

We crash through the door, and I shove it shut behind me, locking it as I slide her coat off. Then we kiss our way across the room, leaving a trail of clothes behind us.

She pushes me onto the couch and climbs onto my lap, kissing me ferociously. “I love you,” she breathes.
