Maia

My dad sighs softly as he takes me in. “You look beautiful, Mai.”

“Thanks, Dad.” I inhale sharply. “You have that look in your eye. Please don’t make me cry.”

He chuckles at that. “I’ll do my best, but I can’t not say what’s on my heart. You’ve always been strong, kid. But you’ve come so far. I’m proud of the woman you’ve grown into.” He points toward the pond. “It looks beautiful over there. Everything you deserve and more.”

My eyes follow his, trying to catch a glimpse.

His phone goes off, and he checks it, then smiles at me. “It’s time.”

Looping my arm through his, we begin our walk toward the pond. We did our best to set it up so Vince couldn’t see me until I was at the end of the aisle. I’m practically bouncing as we get close, walking behind the white wood screens obscuring Vince’s view.

“Ready?” Dad asks.

I smile up at him. “Let’s do this.”

The music starts. Dad steps forward. End of the aisle. And then I see him.

Perfectly coiffed blond hair. Stunning bright blue eyes. An immaculately tailored suit. And pure love shining on his face.

Dad steps down the aisle.

Hell yes. Let’s go.
