I give her my most charming smile. “Who? Me?”
“Come here,” she says, holding out her arms.
I walk over and give her a hug, letting her squeeze the life out of me. It’s ninety percent joy, ten percentI’m-gonna-kill-you-for-getting-her-pregnant.
“She said you were trouble, but I always looked past that. Looks like you were just the kind of trouble she wanted.”
Abuelita tosses a glance back at Leigh, who is smiling, though her cheeks are pink.
When she looks back at me, her eyes are serious again.
“You keep taking care of her, you hear me? Of both of them.”
“I will, Abuelita.”
Abuelita laughs loudly. “Good. Now, let’s have some dinner. You can tell me how all of this happened. Ah, and then we can start going through old baby clothes, and…”
As Abuelita prattles on, Leigh squeezes my hand. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For believing that this would go okay, even when I didn’t.”
“I could see it a little more objectively. Plus, I told you she’d still love me.”
Leigh rolls her gorgeous eyes. “She’s probably just happy I’m having a baby with you and not some tool.”
Attempting to keep a straight face, I say, “You mean like Taz?”
She grabs my shirt and pulls me close to her, brushing her lips against mine as she whispers, “Shut up.” Then she shoves her tongue into my mouth and kisses me forcefully. I’m about to grab her and kiss her back the same way, when she slowly pulls away and bites down on my bottom lip.
Then she smiles and walks over to the kitchen, swaying her hips with every step, knowing exactly what it does to me.
Sass has always been foreplay to her.
I shake my head and stand in place, trying to cool myself down since we aren’t alone.
God, we’re gonna be so screwed if our kid has even an ounce of her attitude.
Having a baby still scares the hell out of me. But having one with her? I can’t deny it excites me.
Yep. I’m still an absolute pathetic sap.
