“Iamsoreadyfor some chill time,” I say, propping my feet up on the coffee table and looking at Trev.

“Dude, me too. Although, I’m a little surprised I managed to pry you off Leigh. You’re practically attached to her these days.”

“She’s hot. She’s horny. She’s in love with me. She’s having my baby. Give me one good reason to be anywhere else.”

He shrugs. “Fair point.”

“Hey,” my brother says, walking in the front door.

“Hey.” I get a good look at him and immediately ask, “You okay?”

He sighs as he plops down in a chair. “Yeah. I’m fine. Just been an intense afternoon.”

“Everything okay with you and Maia?”

He opens his mouth to answer, but before he can, Braden walks in.

“Hey, guys. What’s up—” He stops short as his gaze lands on Vince. The two of them stare at each other for a moment.

Oh fuck, what did I miss?

Trevor takes in the situation and grimaces.

“So, you kissed Maia,” my brother deadpans, eyes still locked on Braden.

What the hell?

“Are you frigging kidding me?” Trevor says. Then he looks at me. “Dude, I said I wanted a relaxing night, not the next episode of whatever soap opera all of you are living in.”

Ignoring him, I look at Braden. “You kissed Maia? I thought you were—”

He holds up his hand to me and looks at Vince. “I’m sorry. I—it wasn’t anything. It really wasn’t. Just closed mouths. Are you two okay? I don’t want to screw anything up.”

Vince stares at him for a moment longer, then his face breaks, and he chokes back a laugh. “We’re fine.”

Braden’s shoulders soften, and he lets out an exhale before rolling his eyes. “Seriously? You’re gonna make me panic like that?”

“Well, youdidkiss her. You guys kissed. Whatever. I came home to her hiding under her pillow, afraid to tell me. A couple of panic attacks later, some declarations of love, and plenty of kissing, and we’re all good. But for the love of God, please keep your lips off my—”

Vince stops short and we all stare at him. Of course, it’s Braden who decides to push the buttons.

“Your what? You stopped yourself. What were you going to say?”

Vince clears his throat and rises from the chair. “Nothing. Just going to say my girlfriend.” He heads for the kitchen, but we all follow him. Well, Braden and I do. Trevor reluctantly stands up from the couch.

“No. You wouldn’t have stopped if you were going to say that. Come on,” I prod, “what were you gonna say?”

He sighs as he grabs a water bottle from the fridge. Then, running a hand over his face, he quietly says, “My wife.”

“I’m sorry. She kissed this asshole today and you want to call her your wife? Fuck, you guys are nuts. I’m going back to the couch,” Trevor says.

“I know it sounds crazy, trust me. But we had an emotional conversation and then just laid on the bed in each other’s arms. I’ve never felt more connected to her. And, to be fair, it’s not the first time that word has occurred to me. It’s become a common thought since we moved in together. But it’s insane. We’ve only been together for seven months. We’re only nineteen.”

I glance at Braden, who smiles at me. “But you’ve also been friends your entire lives,” I remind him.
