“You can?” he asked in disbelief.

“I’m a computer genius remember?”

“Then dazzle me with your genius and I’ll make dinner,” he stated giving her a kiss.

“You’re going to make dinner?” she teased getting up with him. “Now this I have to see.”

Dani followed him into the kitchen and watched with one eye as he began to take things out and make a giant mess while she went through the different queries that he’d need. She finished fairly quickly but wanted to watch him as he worked and began to redesign the database from scratch. It was fun and easy, something she desperately needed, and she was glad she’d kept up to date with the latest in technology.

“You should really update to the newest operating system Luke; it’ll make the computers run faster.”

“It will, will it?” he asked walking up behind her as the food simmered on the stove. “Dani, that’s amazing,” he said spying the concept on the screen. “Wow…”

“And it’ll do so much more than you thought too,” she admitted with a grin as she inputted the data from the other. She ran him through each of the concepts and he shook his head before kissing her.

“Maybe I should have you take a look at all our systems, make sure no one’s doing anything they shouldn’t be,” he stated kissing her lightly as he went to dish up dinner.

“Anytime,” she replied finishing the latest portion of it before he sat her plate down in front of her. “This looks amazing Luke.”

“Have to keep my girl happy and fed, that way she’ll stay with me.”

“I’m not going anywhere Luke.”

“Good…how was your day?’

“Therapy you mean?” she inquired lowering her lashes.

“You don’t have to…”

“It’s okay. It was good, and I think between it and what we’ve found the last couple months I’m ready to move past the miscarriage and that pain.”

“You’re back to being my Dani then? The one who doesn’t let me by with anything?”

“Her without the constant battles with you hopefully. I can’t go back to that Luke. I don’t want to go back to that.”

“Neither do I baby. I just want to see that smile reach your eyes again, hear you laugh and really mean it. I don’t want the shell; I want your fire back.”

“It’s all right here Luke,” Dani promised kissing him as a warning played through her mind. She pushed it away knowing the instant he learned the truth he’d be furious, and this would be over. What they currently had was incredible and she wanted to cherish it as long as possible because when he left her, she knew her heart would shatter, and she’d never recover.

Dani pushed open the door to the office suite and sent Lori a smile. “Luke in?”

“He’s out to lunch with Doreen. I didn’t mean that they’re…” Lori tried to correct her statement, but Dani laughed it off.

“Ah, so he decided to go ahead and buy out Larry? I’m glad.”

“You know about that?” Lori stated in surprise. “I thought you and Luke didn’t talk business.”

“We didn’t but I was the one who told him about Doreen and Larry’s split. He still has his desktop set up, right?” she inquired with a grin.

“After what he paid for it absolutely,” Lori answered. “But he doesn’t like anyone touching it…”

“Trust me he’ll love it,” Dani said heading into his office. She caught sight of their wedding picture and smiled lightly as she straightened it. It was for show, she knew, but it still made her happy to see it. “Don’t worry Lori you won’t get in trouble. Luke knows what I can do with computers and I’m not about to lose anything on it. I just need in the mainframe to finish up the new database.”

“The what…wait are you talking about the one that we just had redone? The one that doesn’t work worth a damn?”

“One and the same,” she stated pulling up the login screen, smiling at the woman’s worried face watching her. “Lori, I promise you’re not going to get into trouble. I don’t like talking about it because I’d left it all behind me, but I went to college for computer engineering.”
