“He’s the reason I almost went into preterm labor, but Felix didn’t realize that his lowball price wouldn’t keep him loyal. You can go to hell now Dean because I’m not going back.”
“Dani, where are you going?” Dean asked stalling her.
“To see what’s on this chip, there is no way I’m handing it over and letting him walk. I am sick of living in fear that someone’s going to try and kill me again. I will not let that bastard have the chance to send someone after me or my girls again. I swear to god, if anything’s happened to them,anythingDean, it won’t be Luke or Felix you’ll be running from,” she warned. She moved towards the door, but Luke blocked her path.
“Dani, what are you doing?” he asked gently as his heart tore open. He helped do this to her. He never bothered to look close enough to know that she’d still been lying but he should have. Everything she’d done, the way she’d said things, had all pointed towards her knowing it would end one day.
“I’m getting my daughters back. I’m doing what I have to.”
“Dani, you can barely walk, please just get back into the bed and calm down. You’re not going to do our girls any good if you have a stroke.”
“Don’t pretend you care about me Luke. The fantasy’s over; all I want is DJ and GG home, other than that I don’t care about anything anymore,” she said pushing past him.
“No,” Tyler said blocking the door. “I don’t know what the hell is going on around here but you’re not doing this Dani; you’re not putting your life in danger.”
“Move out of the way Ty, if you cared about me at all—ever—let me through.”
“No Dani, I don’t care how or why you came into this family you’re still my sister-in-law and I won’t let you kill yourself.”
“That’s not going to happen, what is, is me going home to get my computer to figure out what’s on this chip and why Felix wants it so badly.”
“Honey, it’s a zoo out there, you’ll never get past the reporters to get home,” Tyler argued.
“But we can take that chip to the FBI office,” the lead agent said coming up behind them. “We’ll get our people to crack it and see what it has we can use to take down Felix.”
“No, nothing happens to him or his organization until I have my girls back. I’m not letting it out of my sight until they are,” Dani stated.
“That’s fine, we can get you out of here and into the office through the back,” he replied seeing the determination in her face. “Our first priority is finding your daughters Mrs. Nolan.”
“Then stop talking and move,” she told him, and she heard the muffled laugh from Luke.
“I’m coming with you,” Dean stated hurrying to her side.
“Go to hell Dean; go back to Mona and the kids because I don’t need you.”
“Who are you?” Agent Ross asked.
“Dani’s brother.”
“Mona, as in Mona Gaston,” Agent Ross inquired.
“She’s my wife. Felix has been after us and Dani got caught in the crosshairs.”
“We thought the man had killed her; where have you been hiding?”
“Auckland…”
“That’s why you didn’t want to go to Sydney,” Luke said staring at her. “Dani…”
“Not now Luke.” Dani sighed as her body shook with pain.
“You need to be in bed,” he said catching her as she started to fall.
“I need my girls, help me bring them home,please,” she said as he lifted her into his arms.
“Okay,” he agreed knowing if he refused, she’d push through the pain and do it anyway. “Let’s go.”
