Since he faced the counter, she couldn’t see his expression. And she really wished she could because his back muscles flinched. “I’m Bex.”

“Bex Claybourne?”

He blew out a breath. “I really wish Martin had filled you in. No, Van Claybourne is just the band name. Just call my brother Van and me Bex, okay?”

“Wow, this is all so crazy.” And then it struck her. I’m with the wrong brother. “Crap. Aren’t I supposed to spend the day with Van?” I’m so confused.

“No.” His tone seemed impatient. “The driver’s got Van’s schedule and will get him where he needs to go. You’re with me.”

The moment she’d had her first break of the very busy day, Della kicked off her heels and climbed into her bunk to call Micky. “I always imagined rock stars with hangovers, sleeping in and playing video games, but Van spent the day in back-to-back interviews, while their manager”—uh, Bex, his twinbrother—“handled all the business stuff like merchandise issues, overnighting contracts, and running errands.” She hated lying to her best friend, but what could she do? She’d try to keep it as close to the truth as possible.

“Are you loving it?”

“You know, I am. I like to be busy, and I like to fix things, and since there are so many moving parts for a huge band like this, there’s always one wheel or another falling off, so yeah, it’s a really good gig.” She was dying to spill the beans.

Van’s a twin!

Can you believe it? And I’m not even slightly attracted to him.

But his brother…Lordy, I can’t seem to get close enough. I love his voice, his hands, and the way he handles everything so calmly and deftly.

She’d learned that when Van was out and about, Bex stayed on the bus. They never took the risk of being discovered. Which meant she and Bex had spent the day working either in the lounge or at the kitchen table. The space was small, they were all alone since the driver didn’t have to be on the bus until after tonight’s show, and it just felt so intense between them. This energy, this…connection. Whew.

Boots thudded on the stairs. “Oh, he’s coming. I’ve got to go.”

“Are you going to the concert tonight?” Micky asked. “Do you get to be backstage with a laminated pass?”

Della laughed. What had once been their biggest fantasy had now become her real life. “Of course. I’m with the band.”

“I can’t believe you’re living your dream.”

“Della?” Bex called in his deep, commanding voice.

“Gotta go,” she whispered into the phone before disconnecting.

When she pushed aside the curtain and leaned out, she practically face-planted into his abs. Oh, man, did he smell good. She got a whiff of clean cotton, spicy soap, and something intensely masculine. A scent that activated the most primal, feminine response. She grinned up at him. “You rang?”

“There’s a problem with the sound system, so we need to get to soundcheck earlier than planned.”

“Wait, you’re going to the venue?”

“Yes.”

Dropping out of the bunk, she shoved her feet back into her heels. “I do not understand the division of labor here, but I’m ready to roll.” Grabbing her purse, she hurried after him. “What does Van do during soundcheck?”

“He’s at the gym.”

“No way. Your rock star twin goes to a public gym?”

“No, one of the buses has fitness equipment.” At the bottom of the stairs, he turned back to her. “Sorry to cut your break short, but this won’t take long, and then you’re done for the day.”

“Okay, so I’m not needed at the show tonight?”

“You’re welcome to go. I can get you a backstage pass.”

She couldn’t help imagining a high five with Micky. “And where will you be?”

“While he’s performing, I’ll be in the gym.” He gestured for her to walk ahead of him.
