“Stop it!”

I scream at him, so loudly that people across the street turn and stare.

I’m shaking, my shoulders heaving as I stare haggardly at him—wanting so badly to believe him, but knowing I need to cut that part of me out.

I need to kill those needs and desires with fire.

His eyes narrow.

“Ella—”

“We’re done,” I rasp coldly. My head shakes slowly side to side, my eyes never leaving his.

“And this obscene arrangement isover.”

“It’s over when I say it’s—”

“Fuck you,” I snarl viciously. “You’re above the law. You’re above consequences, and morals.”

My eyes narrow.

“But you willneverbe above me.”

I whirl, raising my hand at a passing black cab.

“It’s my shadow that decides if you’re in the sunlight or darkness, little one.”

The shiver dances up my spine, arresting my breath and igniting something wild and illicit inside of me.

But I squeeze my eyes shut, forcing myself to breathe as the cab pulls to the curb in front of me.

“No, Noel.”

I turn, somehow perfectly calm and cold; perfectly cutting.

Just like him.

“No, Noel,” I hiss thinly. “We’re fucking done here.”
