“Stay away from me,” I choke.

Oliver’s brow furrows.

“Ella, I need you to help me—”

“Stay away from me!”I scream. “Stay away! Stay away!”

I keep screaming, my throat going raw and my vision swimming. The back door of The Slipper flies open, and suddenly, a shape rushes past me, swinging a cricket bat at Oliver’s head.

Harry.

Oliver hisses, barely dodging the hit and lunging back towards his car.

“Crazy bitch!” he yells.

“Get thefuckout of here!” she roars at him, advancing with the bat raised.

Oliver glances at me, but I’m barely aware of it. I can barely stand, or see straight, as I cling to the brick wall, sucking in air.

“Three!” Harry hisses. “Two!”

“Okay! Okay! Ella, just—”

“One!”

Oliver darts into his car, slamming the door right before Harry sinks a huge dent in his roof. The Rolls Royce roars off, and she whirls, immediately rushing towards me.

“Jesus, El!”

“I’m okay!” I blurt, shaking everywhere. Seeing almost double.

“I’m fine, I’m fine,” I lie.

“The fuck was that?!”

“Nothing,” I blurt coldly. “Nothing. Just more bullshit.”

I reach down, snatching the two-page report from the folder on the ground. I crumple them and shove them into my bag.

Harry frowns at me.

“Everything okay?”

“Fine,” I blurt, forcing a fake smile to my face.

“Never a dull moment, huh?”

I choke when she rushes to hug me tight.

“God, I missed you.”

I grip her tightly, like I’m clinging on for dear life.

Harry laughs. “Well, c’mon. Forget that fucking Prince prick and come drink whiskey with me.”

I nod, my head swimming, numb as I blindly follow her back inside. Harry is chatting away, thinking she just interrupted Oliver trying to pull some more political moves on Noel through me, like before.

She doesn’t know that I’ve just been sliced in half.

She doesn’t know that I’m bleeding out as I shuffle after her into the bar.
