“By?” I snap.

His mouth thins.

“I have my suspicions.”

“Who? Bigfoot? Aliens?” I bristle. “The illuminati—?”

“Oliver Prince, actually.”

I freeze, a chill creeping up my spine.

“No,” I shake my head. “No, he—”

“He’s the one other thing they both had in common,” Noel growls. “And I’ve just given you every reason to see I’m not the monster you’re looking for.”

I swallow feeling lightheaded as I look down.

“What’s the full amount of your debt?”

I stiffen, and my eyes dart to his before I can stop him. His jaw grinds.

“And to whom do you—"

“I don’t want your money.”

He rolls his eyes.

“Then consider it a tough pill to swallow, because something tells me youneedmy money.”

I glare at him.

“No. We talked about this. Under no circumstances do I want your money.”

“You are the moststubborngoddamn—”

“Yes, I am,” I snap back.

“And yet here you are, voting against your own best interests, all because Prince showed you exactly what you wanted to see.”

I chew on my lip as I drag my eyes away from his, staring at nothing across the room.

Fuck. He might be right. Actually, the more I keep unraveling it, I think he’s definitely right, even if I don’t want to admit it.

I wanted to see a story, and Oliver delivered it to me. And it worked. I walked out of that ladies room frothing at the mouth to hurt Noel, and Oliver led me right to the weapon to do it with: my vote.

My eyes narrow as anger surges inside of me.

“Moving forward,” Noel growls, making me shiver as he leans close to me—so close that I can feel the heat of his body against my bare one through the thin sheet.

“You will not—and let me repeat myself once and only once—you willnotsee or speak to Oliver Prince, ever. Is that clear?”

My mouth thins.

“You can’t talk to me like—”

“Watch me.”

My hand flies to his face, fury roaring in my veins as I go to slap him.
