I stiffen.

“Not even a little.”

Oliver grits his teeth, shoving me away as he takes a step back.

“You married Matilde, Ransom.” He smiles thinly. “And yet, remind me…”

“Careful, Prince.”

“Who did she seem to prefer fucking? And what happened to Cassandra afteryouswooped in?”

I rush him, every intention of pounding his face into the wall. Which is precisely when hospital security chooses to make an appearance.

I don’t fight them. I just glare at Oliver as they swoop between us, pushing me back.

“I’mfine,” I snap, shoving their hands off of me and straightening my jacket.

The idiots have the nerve to glance at Oliver, as if this rests on his approval. He nods, and I roll my eyes as one of the security guys tells me to “mind myself.” When they filter away, he and I stay where we are, across the hallway from each other, glaring at each other.

“I know what you think about me,” Oliver finally growls. “And I know the suspicions you have about me. Because I’ve harbored the same ones about you.”

My jaw grinds.

“But mysonwas in there, Noel,” he rasps. “As was Ella. I think we can say this rules either of us out.”

He sighs, shoving his hand through his blond hair.

“You might not like me, Ransom—”

“Now what would have given you that impression?”

He smiles thinly.

“Fine,” he grunts. ”Fine.”

He puts his hands up, shaking his head as he turns back to his son’s hospital room.

“I hope Ella feels better soon, Noel.”

“And I hope you fall off of a cliff, Oliver.”

His eyes lance into mine.

“This is how it’s always going to be, isn’t it?”

My teeth grind together.

“Best to your kid, Oliver. But between you and I? Yes,” I snarl. “This is how it’s always going to be.”

He holds my glare another second before he shakes his head, turns, and steps back into Jacob’s room.
