“Youmarried herjust to screw with Oliver?”

His eyes lock with mine.

“I told you I was not a white knight, Ella.”

I lean in, kissing his cheek.

“You can be my white knight.”

Noel smiles, his hands sliding up my thighs over the sundress I’m wearing, gripping my waist. But that knotted ball is stuck in my stomach and my throat. The idea of him… with her…

I wrinkle my nose, scowling.

“It was a long, long time ago, Ella,” he whispers softly, cupping my face. “I’m more than twenty years older than you,” he murmurs quietly. “And this was averylong time ago. “

“Did you fuck her—”

“Stop it,” he murmurs, shaking his head.

“Did you have her ass?”

His jaw tightens.

“What are you doing Ella?”

“Nothing,” I scowl. “I just… I’m curious and—”

“Jealous.”

My eyes snap to his. His narrow.

“I’m jealous ofanyman—any stranger on the street—who evenlooksat you,” he hisses darkly.

I swallow.

“Yes, I’m jealous.”

“Don’t be.”

“Why.”

“Because that didn’t matter.”

His jaw grits. My breath catches.

“And this does.”

I blush, my pulse throbbing at his words.

“You didn’t answer the last question.”

He rolls his eyes.

“No, I did not.”

Something surges inside of me, igniting me. I swallow back the rest of my wine and set the glass on the table next to us. I press my hips down onto him harder, rolling them slowly as I drag my hands up his chest. I can feel him stirring under me, throbbing larger.

Heat pools between my legs.
