She nodded and tossed a small hard case to him, which he easily caught. The woman sat on the rear floor of the vehicle. Her legs plunged into the water. Scooching off the edge, she stood and braced herself against the current.

“Give me your hand.” Rev stepped into the water and reached out for her. He steeled his legs, making sure the water didn’t shift his footing.

“Okay,” she said, inching out farther into the water, keeping one hand locked on the side of her Jeep.

“Come on, I’ve got you. I won’t let anything happen to you,” Rev said to reassure the woman. She looked skittish, as if she was having an internal debate on whether she should trust him. He guessed he didn’t blame her. Hell, he was a complete stranger, asking for her trust. Albeit, they were currently locked into what could be a deadly situation.

The wind picked up, a loud boom of thunder clapping nearby. The woman launched herself through the water toward him.

“I hate storms,” she yelped as he scooped her up into his arms.

“Noted. Now, let’s get the hell out of here.”

She clicked her key fob and closed the back hatch of her SUV. “Good idea.”

Once they were out of the water, he set her on her feet. “My cabin isn’t far from here. Are you okay to walk?”

“Yeah, I’m good. Thanks, by the way.”

“You’re welcome.”

“I think this storm is just getting started,” Rev said as they reached his front porch.

“I hope not. I am not a fan of this crap.” The woman twisted the bottom of her shirt to wring the water out of it, showing off the perfect amount of creamy white skin.

Rev tried not to notice the way her shirt clung to her breasts or her perfectly peaked nipples. He tried to look away when she flashed a portion of her skin in the hopes of getting some of the water out of her shirt. He especially tried not to think about how he wanted to strip her bare and make her scream his name all night long.

“It looks like you are stuck here until the storm passes and water lowers in the narrows.” The thought of this woman being under his roof for whatever amount of time it took to get her Jeep unstuck shouldn’t have sounded like music to Rev’s ears. But damn. She was beautiful. There was something about her that he couldn’t put his finger on. His animal was just as interested in her as he was, and he wasn’t quite sure what to think about that bit of information.

“I am so sorry. I’ve never seen anything like that before. The storm came out of nowhere. I’m Hallie Roberts, by the way. And you are?”

“I’m Rev Macay. It’s nice to meet you. Let’s go in and get dried off.”

“Sounds good.”
