“I felt it too,” she whispered.

“I know,” Rev said with a smile. “Let’s see about getting your Jeep unstuck, shall we?”

“Lead the way.”

“I’ll try to get it out on its own before I break out the tow strap. It might not be as bad as it looks.”

“Okay.” Hallie handed Rev her key fob.

He climbed into her Jeep and, surprisingly, started it with no issues. She thought for sure he was going to sink waist deep into the muck, but he was amazingly light on his feet. The taillights flashed when he shifted into drive. The Jeep crawled right up out of the mud as if it hadn’t been stuck at all.

Rev pulled up onto the stable part of the road and hopped out. “That was a lot easier than I thought it would be.”

“I saw that,” she replied with a fake smile. Part of her wished her damn Jeep would have remained stuck in the mud so she would have an excuse to stay with Rev longer. Alas, her Jeep was free, and now so was she, to go home.

She jumped down from Rev’s truck and grabbed her purse and equipment. “I guess I should hit the road.”

Rev grabbed the bags from Hallie and loaded them into her Jeep. He turned back to her and pulled her into his arms. She sighed as his scent and heat enveloped her. Gods, she really was going to miss being with him 24/7. How he had wormed his way so deep into her heart in such a short time baffled her.

“Don’t be a stranger,” he said before his lips closed over hers.
