“Because I asked her to find someone for you. And apparently, she did.”

Rev threw his beer into the bin. “That’s just fucking great. So this whole thing with Hallie was just a setup … a goddamned scheme? You know how opposed I am to arranged matings. And the last thing I want is some bullshit shifter magic trick to fool me into thinking I’d found the right one. All smoke and fucking mirrors. I can’t believe you did this to me, Eddie.”

The adrenaline rushed through Eddie’s veins, and it took every ounce of strength not to shift into his wolf. “Fuck you, Rev. So you think Sierra and my mating is all because Gerri conjured up magic? Just go fuck yourself. You have no idea. You know, people don’t cross through the Amazon jungle or climb Mount fucking Everest without a guide. It’s the same way with life. Sometimes you need a little help. But I guess you are just too much of a stubborn asshole to realize you can’t do this on your own.”

Eddie’s words sank into Rev’s gut like daggers. They hurt because he knew he insulted the sacred mating of his best and only friend. But he still wasn’t going to admit to anything.

“Fuck off, Eddie.”

“Oh, I will. I will fuck all the way off and out of your miserable life, Rev,” Eddie said before getting on his bike.

Rev watched his now ex-friend’s bike spit loose gravel across the drive before tearing down the road and around the curve. He knew everything had just changed.
